Incase you were wondering if the event would be back this year...

Installation and set-up for the event begins July 11, with the first rehab wall scheduled to pop-up on July 31st. Installation will be complete by mid-November.

What's a rehab wall? They need to wall off areas to put up lights?

Yup, they put up walls to keep people away from the scaffolding, etc. Not sure how familiar you are with the event, but they install huge light sculptures and cover the buildings in light - not just putting up on the arches like regular folks do ;)

The first wall will be up the longest, the other walls coming in August and September for about 3 weeks each.

Last time I saw them, they were on the backlot. They were installing them and without walls so we could see all the goings on. I guess the walls are necessary though, now that they are in the public area. Wouldn't want anyone to put their finger in a lightbulb socket then sue WDW. ;)

Point taken.

I can't say that is early - I have been known to put up my house lights in July and August. Of course, I do it because of weather - Florida's snow is a little warmer than ours.

What the...? Jeez, this is gonna look tacky. I vote to just not have them if for 4 months of the year Streets of America is going to look like crap.

That does seem incredibly early...

I'm very curious as to whether or not the Streets of America construction schedule will in any way interfere with the installation of the lights... If I remember correctly, the Streets of America are supposed to be done by October.

Hmm, it seems easier to do on this new background b/c the lights just get draped over facades, whereas they use to be put up on houses that each had a different personality. And the space is much smaller now, too.

The lights are draped so close MGM cannot hand out holographic glasses anymore b/c the light strands are too close making the angels not appear, but rather appearing a blurry mess.

yeesh! this IS early! Why can't we just have the parks as they are for a bit? I mean it's always celebration this or holiday that. what about a nice...plain disney park in all it's glory without any tainting of events and what not?!?! Lol :)

Wow, this seems really tacky.

I mean c'mon why not just leave them up all year like the rest of the trailer park t---- !!

(not to say all t.p.t. leave their lights up all year)

I leave the clear twinkle lights on my trees in the back yard up all year.
It reminds me of Disney magic. Neighbors think I'm nuts. :hammer:

While on this topic, why has it taken nearly 2 years to work on the Streets of America set and they STILL are not done yet!!!! And is Chicago still getting a set? If so, where?

askmike1 - I don't think we are complaining. Just curious why WDW is putting up X-mas lights 5 months before they will be "switched on"

I honestly don't believe this report is true.

They are not putting the lights up 5 months before they are turned on, they are starting to put them up. It will take that time to install all of the lights. And the report is true because this is around the time they NEED to start putting the lights up every year.
