MGM/Osbourn Lights

I was looking at our schedule for our upcoming December trip (only 72 more days), talking things over with my wife when I looked at the schedule for MGM. The week we're there, MGM closes at 7PM. Granted, the winter time crowds are smaller, but with Fantasmic and the Lights going on, how on earth could they close the park so early. Last year we were there 9 and the crowds are there to support the late closing.

Anyone know if the schedule will change (always subject too, I know). Just shocked... expecially with all of the stuff we're wanting to do.

It gets dark really early here in Decmember, so you'll have time to see the lights.

The scedule is subject to change, and could very well do so, but not guarenteed.

If I remember correctly, the lights start around 6:00, and since they really only stop the rides at 7:00 and you can still walk around after that, there's plenty of time.

Though, frankly, I just can't get into the new light show in the New York setting. Am I alone in that, or does anyone else feel that way?

For those in my family who had never seen the lights they were still amazed at the sight in the N.Y. setting. But for those of us who had seen it the other way it was a much different feeling. Still good to me, just different.

It's dusk at about 5:30 and the Osbourne Lights come on at 6:00. The Fantasmic show is at 7:00. I'm thinking to see both I'll need to be at MGM on two different evenings.
We'll be there week of 11/25 - 12/2 when the parks close earlier too.
Any thoughts or advice on seeing both on the same night when the park closes this early ?

See the osborne lights AFTER fantasmic, they normally keep them on for an hour or two.

Thank you Chape.
I have dinner planned for about 5 pm at 50's Prime Time and then over to Fantasmic for the 7pm show.

We've been during this week for the past 2 years and missed the Osbourne Lights on both trips. I'd like to be sure to see them this year when we go and my 9 year old daughter said she'd rather do Fantasmic if we only did one and not both.

Sounds like doing the lights after Fantasmic is the perfect answer. After last years Fantasmic we just followed everyone to the front gate after the show because we knew the park was closed. This year we'll just head over after the show.

Be sure to exit through the Main Entrance to Fantasmic, don't take the side roads. Also, earlier in the day, ask a cast member around the lights what time they will be turned off, just to be sure.

I can't wait I cant wait!:sohappy: I am such a Christmas nut and if you throw Disney into the mix I feel like I will exploade with joy! Careful, I'm contagious! Seeing the Osborn lights is one of the most amazing Christmas events you will ever see. I can literally just sit in the middle courtyard for hours just watching the lights, listening to the music, and watching the joy on the faces of other people.

Disney has already been putting up the lights for a few weeks. Several CM's I spoke with confirmed that the lights have been getting turned on after park close to test them and they get turned off just before sunrise.

Another early opening for that no doubt...just like last year!

I think, right now, they are scheduled to open the week prior to Thanksgiving. I think they've done previews a few days prior to that in years past. The first few years of the lights, they opened on Thanksgiving weekend.

That being said... it does take Disney approximately 2-3 months to install all the lights. When the lights were on the Osborne home, the crews would start putting up lights usually in October and worked pretty much non-stop until they turned them on in mid-December. My DH worked on the Little Rock lighting crew one year before we were married, and he would work VERY long days (16+ hours). He loved it! And the result was phenomenal!

Whenever the opening happens- can't wait to see it! :xmas:

Thanks for the pictures and advice on how to see both Fantasmic and the Osborne lights the same evening! The lights on the buildings are amazing and they are not even turned on yet. I can hardly wait to see them turned on!

Thanks again!:D

60 more days to see all the Disney Christmas Fun!!!!!:xmas:
