We're coming to WDW the week after Thanksgiving and I was wondering which is best for a 6 and 7 year old; MGM or Universal Studios. Thanks for your help.

Universal

My daughters are 6 and 8 and they would vote for Universal but they are both daredevils. The more a ride flips and turns and the faster it goes, the better. They have been going to Universal since they were 4 and 6. I don't think you can compare MGM and Universal. They are completely different types of parks. My girls also love MGM but they always pick Universal if that is a choice. I will try to answer any other questions you have.:)

As PixiePower said, both parks offer differant things. It all depends on preference. I haven't been to Universal Studios in a while, but I enjoyed Nickelodean Studios, Ghostbusters, and Back to the Future when I went. MGM has a little of everything. It has great shows, thrilling rides (two of the best on property), some tame rides that are very enjoyable to ride, good food, and a great nightime show. My suggestion would be MGM. Universal is a good park, but I just like the overall feel, and the rides that MGM has better. (I haven't been on Mummy yet)

I would choose any park in Orlando over USF. But that is me. I love Islands of Adventure and parts of USF, but overall I would say that USF is my least favorite park. I really like Shrek 4-D, T2:3D and Revenge of the Mummy (overhyped though), but the rest of park is simply "ok" to me.

I guess it would depend on if your kids like Shrek, Jimmy Neutron, ET, Men In Black,etc... or if they are bigger fans of Disney Characters, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Muppets, etc.

I would just look at the official Disney and Universal sites and look and see what the kids would want to see. If Shrek is their favorite thing right now, you might want to look at USF, but if they are constantly playing with their Light Sabors you might want to go to MGM so they can ride Star Tours.

I think it depends on the children's interests...remember Universal has Nickelodeon Studios, if they're into that. Also, attractions like E.T., Shrek, Jimmy Neutrom are a big hit. If they're thrill seekers, then Islands of Adventure is the place - if not, it's not worth it just for Seussland. MGM has a good mix of attractions for all ages. If you're staying at a Disney Resort, I'd recommend MGM, simply for convenience purposes. Save Unversal for a future trip when you have the time to experience all of the Universal parks.

Definitely MGM, although that is my least favorite of the Disney parks. We were so disappointed in Universal. If you're really into Disney, you will enjoy MGM moire. USF is just not Disney.

MGM is a great park, but in terms of appealing to 6 and 7 year olds, I honestly can't see how anyone could possibly recommend it over Universal.

Sure it has the Muppets. But the Muppets really aren't hugely popular characters with that age group like they once were. Yes, it has Star Tours. But it's a thrill ride, which could scare kids that young (who also may not meet the height requirement of the ride). Even if they're hardcore Star Wars fans, they may not be able to enjoy the attraction and that could be frustrating. And yes, there's Fantasmic. But I'd hate to tell a 6 or 7 year old that they have to wait until nightfall to enjoy the attraction that will appeal to them.

On the other hand, Universal has attractions based on characters that are very popular right now with today's young kids, such as Shrek, Scooby Doo, and Jimmy Neutron.

In addition, right next door is Islands of Adventure, which also is much more appealing to younger kids. Not only is there Spider-Man and the Dr. Seuss characters, but it also has Jurassic Park. Even if they have never heard of the Jurassic Park movies, dinosaurs are generally very popular with kids.

I'd go with Universal!

Thanks Everyone

Thanks to everyone who responded. I think Merlin is correct about the shows and characters that are popular right now. He/she must know my kids well 'cuz those are all their favorites. We have a Park Hopper Plus so we may go to MGM if we have time but I think for now it will be USF based on the input. Thanks again.
