MGM...not what it used to be!

I did not know that. That's too bad. I'm sure some good rides could be themed after Harry Potter. Haven't seen the movies myself but that flying game (Quidich???) would make a good ride.

As for RRC, Good Point. What does Aerosmith have to do with Disney or MGM. Sounds like more of a typical thrill ride. I haven't ridden it yet (again...November 2004) but as described, it sounds like a quick launch coaster. Is it set entirely indoors? PKI has Flight of Fear that is a quick launch that loops and twists inside a building...themeing is based on UFO's.

MGM today is much better, I think with the new stunt show, maybe Indy, MGM will be better. But MGM does have two of the best rides at WDW, Rockin' Rollercoaster and ToT

A hanging coaster based on Quidditch would be great....but there are so many other things that could make for a great ride :p

You are pretty much correct in stating that RnRC is very similar to Flight of Fear; however, it is 10x better than it. As you know (from probably riding Flight of Fear as many times as I have - being in the Cincy area) there is the problem with the head/snap as well as the poor footrests in the car. RnRC is wonderfully themed, the audio is great and just a great coaster to be on. You will not be disappointed.

Sniggle74,

Not to get to off track, but you show that your last visit was Nov. 2003. Was it close to Thanksgiving? Trying to get ideas on crowds. As for Rock and Roller Coaster. I will definitely try it. I like FOF, so based on your views I should like this even more.

:( Too bad the Mickey Mouse Club is no more?? ( I think) Didn't they film them on the backlot before? Wouldn't it have been interesting to sit in on a taping of the show. Is there any show that Disney has that they could do that with?? SO, while at Disney you could see an REAL show in progress---

I know Millionare does this once in a while but I would really like to see something else like that-- The making the movies/shows feeling again! I could be a STAR!! :D

Maybe where Sound Dangerously is? ( Is it still there? ) Guess not, not in the right place. But I would like to have a chance to see a real show in progress-- Hummmmmm :lookaroun

I went 2nd week of November. The crowds were not too hateful. The longest line was possibly Space Mountain and that was only 20 minutes. Everything else was 5 minutes or less. I love going around that time. This was the first time I was there and they were beginning to take the Christmas decorations out to the resorts. Hoping to get out there this year after Thanksgiving to see the entire World decorated :)

Do you think I would be able to hit MGM and AK in one day? Is that possible with the hours for AK? Well all my family is really interested in is RnRC, ToT, Star Tours, we loved the tram tour/catastrophe canyon, Dinosaur, It's tough to be a bug, and primeal whirl...please some info

BTW, I think they closed the Wild Wild Wild West Stunt Show at Universal

Yes, The Club was taped at the studios. When I had my final audition there, we (the finalists) were actually on set....not on camera, but we were there to see the ins and outs of creating the show. It is terrible that 1) the MMC is no more (just nostalgia for me) and 2) shows are no longer video taped there. It would make more sense since it is called the Disney/MGM studios.

*dons my leather/suede MMC jacket* Those were the days!

I agree that it should be Disney/Mirimax or /Touchstone.
I do think it is moving towards a Showbiz theme then the working studio theme.
They should take a few pointers from Paris (what a strange thing to say). They have a Disney Film Festival in the works. I hear that Cinemagic is a great inexpensive attraction.
Now add the Indy Darkride and I think MGM could be great.

Showbiz themed rather than an actual studio.....hmmm
Interesting thought! I don't think it is something that could be done quickly....but with the way things are progressing, I guess it wouldn't be all that hard to do. Although, if you think of it, it does lose the luster of the park.

Something needs to be done to the park.....it cannot survive on ToT and RnRC alone.

I can easily see aerosmith getting old quickly...anyone see a way to change the theme slightly to RNR and have it fit to the theme of MGM!?

Yeah! I don't care who builds it, I will travel a long way to go to a park named "Middle Earth". The rides would be GREAT. I think Disney (if they had the rights and the money) would blow it out of the water. Universal will screw it up with "Frodo's 4-D adventure" or something like that.

What will Disney do with all the empty animation buildings?

I can't see why, both of them have the same MO; taking once great things and completely ruining them for money. I figure they'd get together every weekend to brainstorm new ideas on how to screw their fans.

The reason that RnRC has nothing to do with MGM is because it was never meant to have anything to do with movies.

It has to do with the MUSIC aspect of the ENTERTAINMENT industry. No one said that it was strictly a MOVIE park. Hence the reason that Superstar *TV* was there. And 50's Prime Time Cafe.

The park is about the Entertainment business. It covers movies, TV and now with the addition of RnRC, the MUSIC business.

Plan on being at AK as soon as it opens, and do everything you want there first. Then head to MGM, get fastpasses as soon as you can for the ride you want to do the most, and go from there. MGM is open late enough that I think you'll be able to hit the highlights of both parks if you're fast movers.

Just chiming in.....

The park is undergoing a slow, but inevitable change from true, working, studio park, like Universal Hollywood, into a park whose theme is entertainment, but without the actual working studio component.
It was bound to happen. As someone said earlier, Hollywood productions are reluctant to come to Florida to shoot. It simply is not cost effective.
The idea of the park now is simply to celebrate entertainment in all it's forms. Music at RnRC, TV at Millionaire and ToT, Movies with GMR and Indy. You get the idea.
The change is underway, and will continue into the next decade.

On a side note about Flight of Pain...I mean Fear.
It's a decent ride, but a bit rough for my taste. It's better now without the shoulder restraints, but it still feels like you've been launched into a blender.
RnRC is much smoother, and much better themed. It has one less inversion than FoF, but that's OK.

Why don't they have a ride about Star Trek? I think it would be cool to be a ride/enteractive show that everyone could join.

A CM could be the Captain of the Enterprise and there could be a group of 50 (25 to the Enterprise and 25 to the Borgs or some other enemy), and they could enteract, control the ship, and fight. I think it would be cool. Though, I'm a geek like that. :king:

They did. "They" being *PARAMOUNT*. They own the rights to all things Star Trek.

Well, I didn't know this. I don't know about other Paramount ammusement parks (Great America/Great Adventure/etc.) I've never seen a Star Trek ride...at least where I'm from.
