MGM... er... scratch that... Disney-Pixar Studios

I enjoy reading articles posted by Kevin Yee over at Miceage.com... and on his recent article (with regards to Universals Potter deal)... he stated:

Some of these properties already exist in the theme park universe, others already belong to Disney, and still others just wouldn’t do well in the theme park setting. But what catches my eye is just how often Star Wars shows up here. Yes, Disney has Star Tours and the Star Wars Weekends at the Studios park (soon to be renamed Disney-Pixar Studios).

The changeover to a new name (Disney-Pixar Studios) could be just the opportunity they need to shift the theme away from fake movie sets, and just to celebrating movies, including those movies outside the Disney canon.

I was surprised that I have heard nothing of such change over here on these boards... is this a rumor... anybody know the details?

I know that when MGM pulls their name out, the new name of Disney Pixar Studios is going to coincide with the opening of Toy Story Mania. Not a rumor at all. I just hope the GMR doesn't leave when that happens.

I have not heard this, but if it happens I would love it if they brought the Block Party Bash parade over to this cost. Of course the caliber of performers out in LA seems just a bit better than the performers here in Orlando. Not to bash our entertainers because they are awesome, but anytime I watch a parade out in Disneyland and DCA the energy is just through the roof.

Intresting, I had head it would be just Disney Studios, glad they're working the Pixar name in. I just hope that doesn't mean that the ongoing change from "Walt Disney World" to "Walt Pixar World" continues at a record pace.

I love Pixar, but it feels like they're really taking over the park.

Guess I haven't been paying attention! The changeover to Disney-Pixar was always just a rumor to me! Time to dig up all my opening-year MGM merchandise and reminisce.

Gotta love that Disney-MGM Studios Theme Park clapper-board keychain!

To summarize the past few years worth of rumors... Disney-Pixar is the rumored new name for Disney-MGM -- we've been thinking for more than a year that it would have already happened by now. Especially when we saw them refurbing that logo'd arch near the animation courtyard, but alas, no luck. The rumor especially took legs when Disney and Pixar hooked up together.

Meanwhile, the term "Disney Studios" appears on all printed/video/etc materials related to the park as a result of some special provision in the agreement that does not provide for the use of "MGM" in those methods.

This rumor has been around for awhile.

I wouldn't mind if they called it either Disney Studios, or Disney-Pixar Studios.

I'll probably still call if MGM anyway.

Is there really much else they could do!?
Don't they have some reference (not just rides) in the park from every movie they have produced?

Hopefully the wave will be over soon since they joined awhile ago now!:)

It just feels like everything new is Pixar, which I guess makes sense as Disney hasn't released anything new recently.

Laugh Floor
Toy Story Mania
Nemo and Friends (Living Seas)
Turtle Talk (with Crush)
Disneyland's Nemo sub ride

I'm sure I'm forgetting 1 or 2 Nemo rides :hammer:

I always referred to it as "the studios" as well. Oh, and to those hoping that GMR won't go anywhere, it probably won't. I see a refurb but that's all, as most of the movie properties showcased in the ride aren't even MGM. There are only two or three if I remember correctly.

Call it MGM, Disney Pixar Studios, or even Flim Flamarino...... MGM has a much bigger problem to deal with and that is its ever growing identity crisis. I know there are still many people who label this as their favorite park and there are elements there still which I love, but, they need to decide what the park is going to be and where its going.

I agree that the parks identity crisis is a much bigger problem than the name that comes after Disney-. In the early years, the park *felt* like a place where movies were made. You really got a sense that you were in a studio, rather than a theme park. This may have always been a cleverly executed illusion, but it was convincing nonetheless. With the backlot tour stripped to a bare minimum and with little or no actual production taking place there now, the word "Studios" is perhaps more troubling!
