MGM Backlot Changes in 2003

Was at WDW this week. A pretty "reliable" source told me that the backlot is schedualed to be modified next year. It seems that the church is being leveled right near the old Hunchback show. ( I'm assuming the Huncback stage is included but that I'm not 100% sure.)

I was told that's it's "officially" on for the end of 2003 - Q2 and it's for a new e-ticket attraction.

The rest of the backlot is safe and so are the Osbourne Spectacle of Lights for next year. ( The lights and setup labor are fully planned and budgeted for 2003 with fewer techs but longer setup time)

Anyone have more detailed info on this? ( the church and new attraction)

Seems WDI is finaly going to balance the park out with something big down there.

Got a few more rumors for other threds.

A e-ticket in the backlot would be great! I also heard something was being planned for all of the major parks in the next 3 years. This could be great!!!!!!!

In November they were carrying out maintenance on the Hunchback theatre roof scrapping paint etc. Unless Disney i now run by an ex civil servant would they really refurb something before it was totalled?

Backlot Changes

I was down at WDW over Thanksgiving for 2 weeks and heard from 2 different sources close to the show how MGM Mgt. was "overwhelmed" by the outcry by guests over the closing of the Hunchback Show.

When the Hunchback show closed, there were no immediate plans to put anything "new" into the theater. However, the majority of the stage, sets and lights are still intact there. This, I hear, is very unusual that another show did not come in and remove any of this for their own use.

Perhaps if you, like I miss the Hunchback Show, or are just upset that there are now 2 empty stages at MGM, it would be beneficial to voice your concerns to WDW / MGM Guest Relations at this time. Even if you wrote in the past few months over this same issue, a 2nd letter will not hurt at this point. It seems all of letters & e-mails may be making a difference.

I admit I've never seen the Hunchback show or even the area it's in. Is the area big enough for a Indy ride? I heard the Studios wanted the Indy ride, but AK won the deal to build CTX first. The whole New York area could be used for something. I always seen that as a waste of space.

Well, I am not sold on the "Indy" ride after having ridden CTX but if they are looking to upgrade the Great Movie Ride, would that be a suitable location?

Interesting.

If they only remove the church and leave the old Hunchback stage intact, how much space are we looking at for this new attraction?

The new building wouldn't be that big, unless it's tall.

Somebody out there has to know more about this.

I could be talking out my jaxi but isnt the church in the are behind the central garden, so the area all the way from the church to the stage would be very similar to RNrC at a guess. Anf has beemn said you can always go up in levels.
