Mexican Restaurant?

We are excitedly looking forward to our WDW trip in 27 days! We are frequent visitors to Disneyland and this will be our 3rd trip to the World. We have a tradition of kick starting our vacations with a nice, Mexican dinner. When we go to Disneyland, we always have dinner at Tortilla Jo's (table side guacamole!). Our dilemma is that our Disney senses want to try Paradiso 37 at Pleasure Island but after looking at the menu, I'm not sure it's the "traditional" Mexican that we want. I also looked at Chevy's at Lake Buena Vista and El Patron. Anybody been to any of these restaurants and have any thoughts? We'll definitely be eating at the Mexico pavilion in EPCOT, just not the first night.

I've been to Chevy's multiple times and always enjoy it. I'm from Texas and am more a fan of Tex-Mex than authentic Mexican food, so if you want authentic Chevy's probably isn't the way to go. If you ARE into Tex-Mex there is also the option of Don Pablo's on International Drive.

Paradiso is not mexican its more latin quarter (colombian, etc.). The closest you would get is Mexico pavillion at Epcot. However, their new menu is terrible both inside and out. The cantina outside you used to get a big platter of nachos and meat, tacos, etc. now the prices have went up and the nacho platter is a waste of money. inside the resturant serves terrible food - again I would go there if they sold tacos, fried ice cream, burritos, fajitas, etc - that was the old menu. The new menu is disgusting. With that said I have heard great things about Don Pablos.

I eat a ton of Mexican food, heck in SE Texas you can not throw a rock and not hit a good Mexican restaurant :) Tex-Mex of course but man some good food down here!

I enjoyed San Angel at Epcot, it's not as good as the places around home in Tejas but it has a killer location and the food was good.

We have La hacenida book on June 7th, looking forward to that.

This is going to sound snobbish and "jerk store" material...but I don't even attempt to eat Mexican food outside of Texas. Tried before and it's very disappointing. I'm sure I'd be fine eating at an established chain I recognize from here (Chuy's, Pappasito's, etc)...but what EPCOT has to offer isn't worth the money or time.

From Houston, one of the country's best restaurant cities, with a ton of diversity...I don't think dining at Disney has the same appeal to me as it seems to have to many others. After a trip to virtually anywhere, I look forward to coming home for the food! :)

To me the issue of food at WDW is just like everything else about WDW.

I can find nicer hotels for less money closer to hone.

I can find more exciting rides closer to home for less money.

I can find better food closer to home for less money.

But I can not find a combo of the three that is anywhere close to as good as I find at WDW.

The food is only half the fun of eating at WDW for us. It is also about the location. And WDW has some that are pretty hard to beat. San Angel is one of them IMO :)

I do not agree. The new menu is terrible. Had they never updated the menu then I would agree. Its like the new pop century menu its terrible.

Well said it is NOT good mexican food anywhere there esp San Angel.. CHUY's o boy for sure and that wonderful creme jalapeno dip like ranch could drink that stuff. Even Taco bell is better than anything there..

REALLY they have a Chuys in Florida????.. Wow but when you grow up in New Mexico Nothing s going to taste that good anywhere but there and compare it .. Wolf Brand Chili is NOT Mexican food and I have to go with strictly Queso on my enchiladas or else just order tacos

We eat lots of Mex here in California. Sometimes a couple times a week, so when we go to the world we concentrate on foods that aren't as prevalent like German (Biergarten), Moroccan (Marrakesh), British (Rose & Crown). Just saying. Besides, as I recall I wasn't that thrilled with Mex food at the world.

There's Bongo's Cuban Café is Downtown Disney. Not Mexican, but an extensive menu that may have something that strikes your family's appetite.

I went to the Chevy's in Lake Buena Vista a couple of weeks ago and it was great! They've had a recent make over and whilst we liked it before, the food had really been ramped up a notch and was great this time!

Maya Grill is ok but a bit basic and not the best quality. If you're paying out of pocket I would go to Chevy's! And try the bacon jalapeño wrapped shrimp for an appetiser! :hungry:
