Metal detectors at Disneyland

Metal detectors are being installed at the theme park checkpoints. I wonder when they are going to theme the entire area instead of using temporary tents that have there for fourteen years. I don't believe Knotts has metal detectors yet.

How are they working? Do you have to empty your pockets like the airport. Some people's pin collections would be a nightmare at a metal detector.

Me too, but since everyone isn't being checked I suspect this is a bit of a show to deter guests from bringing firearms into the parks.

When I went to see Star Wars at DTD, they had mandatory metal detectors setup before you enter the building. No toy blasters were allowed but light sabers were allowed.

When I went thru back check they search the bags a lot more thoroughly. They randomly pick people to go through the metal detectors. Since my sister was late I got to watch them pick and choose people to put through the metal detectors for about a half hour. They definitely choose young non white males more often then most other groups. If you have visible tattoos, your going through. Some times they will just put ten people in a row though. It really depends on the security guy watching the bag check. Women wearing burkas always go though as does a 50% chance of female asians for some reason.

I texted my sister that they always put skinny blonde girls with glasses though the metal detectors. She ended up being in a line group that went though.

They're profiling people? That does not sit with me well at all. Very disappointing Disney.

Disney has a third party company running the metal detectors and choosing who goes through them. They are wearing jackets with their company name. Disney security watches along with Anaheim police officers in case someone doesn't comply.

How would they be "just as ineffective" if everyone is being checked for firearms?
