We are trying a few new (to us) Table Service places in September. Looking at the menus, I find myself drawn to the steak, steak, steak. What would you recommend at the following places in their line of dinner entrees and desserts?

Kona Cafe
Mama Melrose
Captains Grill
Cape May Cafe. I realize its a buffet, but what do you say is not to be missed.

I have the same issue. Whenever there is medium rare cow on the menu that is where my attention goes. Here are my suggestions

Kona-Tuna Oscar
Mama Melrose Wood-grilled Tuna or the Chicken Pipette Wood grilled Chicken
Captains Grill-Go with the rib eye.

I echo some of Richard's suggestions...

The tuna at Kona is very good, and would be my choice. I also would go with the Chicken Pipette at Mama Melrose. I haven't been to captains grille yet, so unfortunately I can't help there.

I've been to Cape May a few times since my dad is a big shellfish fan. I, on the other hand, am allergic so I can't touch the stuff. I used to not have a problem there since they seemed to have a good amount of non-shellfish items. However, on a visit there about a year ago I found less for me to eat, so I don't go back.

Kona Cafe - my fiance swears their teriyaki steak is the best steak he's ever had. The bread there is fantastic!

Cape may Cafe - love the crab legs. Try the oreo bon bons at the dessert table - they're the highlight. And it sounds weird but on the kids buffet they have the best mac n cheese i've ever had.

Thanks for the tip. I hope to hit this place on our next trip. My kids are big seafood eaters although from what I hear there is plenty else for them to eat here. But the mere mention of oreo bons bons will overcome any begrudgery they might have otherwise had!

Kona Cafe-- (which by the way I absolutely loved! The highlight of our dining experience last fall) I join in for the recommendation of the Tuna Oscar. Three of us had it and everyone LOVED it. My father is very picky about tuna (he lives near an ocean and has fresh fish all the time) and gave it high marks. My son had the Pan Asian Noodles and was a little disappointed....kind of dry and bland. For dessert I highly recommend the Kilauea Torte....chocolate deliciousness. My youngest son had the Kona Cone and it was enjoyed...very cute presentation too.

Cape May buffet--I was a little disappointed with this meal, but I was forewarned as I had read very mixed reviews. I am huge seafood lover but the buffet was truly a "clam bake" (which is exactly how it is advertised so this is my fault) and not alot of seafood variety. We had an early seating and the food had obviously been sitting on the buffet tables waiting for us for a while. When we went back for a second helping, fresh food had been placed out and was much better. I seem to remember only mussels (which my husband said were pretty bad), crab legs (which were very good), salmon (bleh) peel and eat shrimp (tasteless), clam chowder (tasty) and maybe another baked fish. The desserts however were AWESOME....oreo bonbons (out of this world), mini cupcakes, and lots more deliciousness. Worth it for dessert alone!

Just my humble opinions, but I appreciate input on restaurants before I go. I read all the menus and looked at photos of the food too...that really helped with my decisions. I have never been to the other restaurants so cannot comment. Happy noshing! :slurp:

While DH and I got the steak at Mama Melrose and really enjoyed it, my mom got the tuna and LOVED it! My dad liked the chicken pippette, but didn't love it. I took a bite and thought it was decent. I have no experience with the other restaurants.
