Memory Maker

Next trip (May 2015) will be our first trip since they did away with the photo-pass CD and introduced memory maker. I just wanted to find out what memory maker is all about so I can know if it is something I need to purchase for our next trip. Normally, I buy the photo-pass CD and I buy one or two photo packages from restaraunts we eat at which used to offer that option.

If I want to continue to do that, must I buy memory maker? Is there a way to get all of my photopass pictures without it? If so, what is the difference between that and getting memory maker?

I was just at the official WDW website and I was getting ticket prices and I noticed they had the option to pre-order memory maker for $50 cheaper. But then there was some kind of option for "use immediately" or something to that effect, and it was $50 higher ($199) than the regular pre-order of memory maker, which was $149. What is that option all about?

Memory maker replaces the old PhotoPass+. If you purchase it, you get the copyrights to all photos that are linked to it. No need for additional payment. You just have to download the photos from the website to your computer and then feel free to print whatever and how much ever you want. Ride photos are automatically linked to your account as well. No need for additional purchase. The use immediately option has to do with when you bu the package. If you are on your trip, then that is the purchase you must make to be able to start taking pictures immediately upon purchase. If you are at least one day before your trip, you can purchase the advance purchase and save $50. However, if you are less than 3 days out not all pictures may show up. You need to pre-purchase at least 3 days in advance of your trip to ensure that all pictures are attached. As far as restaurants, if there is a PhotoPass photographer there, then they would scan your Magic Band and all pictures would be uploaded to your Memory Maker account. I think the only one you can still purchase separately is at Cinderella's Royal Table.
