Memory Maker related money grab...

Wife and some family members purchased memory maker for a trip this past November. Just downloaded all the pics, and was looking for the stock images that if I remember right, used to be included in the price. I am making an album for them. All I got in the download was a few useless character pics and a couple of castle firework pics that they included.

The images I am referring to now come on a disc for $30. I could understand charging for the images if not buying memory maker, but $30 on top of $150? 😡

I’m waiting for a call back from guest services(emailed them a few days ago).

The images are included if you order the memory maker disc with all of your pictures. I used to do always order it just because it was easier than downloading them. Last time I ordered it I believe it was 29.99 and yes, on top of the price of memory maker. We have APs now so it is free.

Yeah...they gave me that option, but if all I want to do is download them, you would think they would include them in price.

Why pay for stock photos when you can download millions of professionally taken park photos online for free anyway if you really want to pad out your albums.
I don't want to pay for them, or spend hours pouring through google searches for nice images. I was just pointing out that was once included, is not anymore.

When they included them it was also an extra bonus that was on top of your own photos that were purchased. There was never a gaurantee that they would be included, and there have been many times in the past when they weren't. It's an extra that comes and goes, sometimes added, sometimes not.

When I was there last January they were included. But not in the package last October outside of a few. It's always been meant as a bonus extra that shouldn't be expected.

And don't forget that they are replacing real photographers at character m&g locations with some sort of automated system. Memory maker is becoming worth less and less to our family.
Yes, I know Disney is responsible to their shareholders but the seem to have lost sight of the fact that in the long term their profits come from satisfied customers who think they receive value for what they pay Disney.

I don’t ever remember that many, if any being included in my downloads, but again I usually used to order the disc and pay the extra to not have to bother with the downloads. We have been doing the Photopass discs well before there was a memory maker. I do remember there being a whole separate disc with stock images, but I never used them. Now we just download because it comes with our AP. We don’t try to do as many either, though, since we go so much more now. Wish I could be more help- but I only remember the bulk stock images coming with my discs. I would have been ticked had I had to download them lol. It has changed a lot with the App, way faster to download.

This was actually my first trip since I can recall Memory Maker being a "thing" where I opted not to purchase it. There's only so many times I want to see myself on Splash, and the growth of the kids can still be captured by your own phone... plus maybe an a la carte picture purchase or two from a CM photographer in front of the key icons.

So for my son's album for the trip we had a few weeks ago, I only purchased two photos - he and I alone in front of the MK castle, and one that also included my parents and brother. I think they were $17/ea, and because you can edit them, make them B&W and whatnot, I then printed a bunch of copies at Walmart for family for pennies.

Long story short, to your point, I also received those few stock photos just for buying the 2 a la carte pics. I had no use for them, but here's how many came if people are looking for some greater context...

DHS - 6 photos
MK - 13 photos
EP - 11 photos
AK - 5 photos

I also recall when I did Memory Maker in the past, there were a lot more than 35 stock photos, and they were a lot more varied than a bunch of character actors and AK RoL photos. But it sounds like any purchase nowadays is getting this treatment, and the real group of extra photos is with the CD only. I agree this is a poor conclusion Disney came to.

I don’t ever remember that many, if any being included in my downloads,

When I bought the Memory Maker in January of 2018 I downloaded all of my photos. Those downloads included 131 stock photos from all the parks plus a few of Disney Springs as well as a few that aren't necessarily "park centric".

In October of 2018 it included 35 stock photos on the pictures that were available with my AP memory maker (I didn't have an AP in January)

Those numbers, and photos, have changed at various times over the years, with numbers anywhere between 0 and 150, depending on what they wanted to offer and when. When I worked in Photopass from 2006-2011 they weren't included on the CD's at all the first 3-4 years. They did start to issue a separate CD with the stock photos for anyone to buy, and during a couple of promotions that CD was included as a free bonus with the purchase of all your photopass photos on CD, but that wasn't all the time, and wasn't consistent. I believe my last year they started to include a few on the photopass purchased CD, but I'm honestly not sure on that.

In any case, it was never a sure thing, and was never guaranteed or expected to be part of the package purchased with the Photopass CD (what is now called Memory Maker)

Simple rule- don't ever count on or expect them to be included. They are bonus extras that may or may not be available, and if they are, the ones that are will likely change.

Agreed, stuff changes. I never used them, I just wanted all my photos on a disc so it was worth the 30 bucks just not to have to download my photos. Since I stopped ordering the disc- I download my photos to my phone one at a time. Just easier for me that way. Then dump later to a computer. A computer for me isn’t much more than a photo album now. I looked at my discs and there is a stock gallery with 3 of them. Assuming those would be 2014, 2015 and 2016. I haven’t ordered one since 2016 I don’t think. (Last 3 were labeled with memory maker) I don’t ever remember there being stock images when I dowloaded but again I usually do that on my phone now, way faster, for me at least. It would be kinda crazy for repeat visitors to have to download photos they don’t want or need, maybe that is why I don’t remember seeing many or any? Or that I don’t log in to the Photopass anymore and just use the App.
