Trip Report Memories from 1973-75

I had several old 8mm films recently converted to digital. I only got to watch them quickly but there is this gem I extracted quickly and I had to share. The reel is labeled '73, but there are others labeled '75 that is obviously same trip. I know we purchased a brand new Chevy Suburban in 1973 and we would have drove down in that, however I don't think my father would have taken such a long trip from NY in a brand new vehicle. I am thinking it has to be '75. That would make me the 6 YO boy in the picture with my evil older sisters LOL. Enjoy!

Wow! Awesome that you were able to convert the films. I did that with some family videos and I love going back and rewatching them. You'll have to share snippets if you can.
I certainly will. I was a little disappointed because I know we drove our '73 suburban from NY at that trip and stayed in the Poly. I was hoping to have some footage including either but no. I presume it was awkward taking the 8mm films. My father only took footage really while we were waiting. A lot from the ferry ride from TTC and two trips on the skyway in the MK. Of note are some good aerial shots of 20,000 leagues.

Plus a shot of my mother smoking sitting under the liberty tree

My memories from this trip:
*$13 per day Poly stay (I am not sure if this is accurate or not - not sure where that memory came from)
*20,000 leagues under the see. The diving bell and mermaids swimming outside the portal.
Mr. Toads wild ride - I will never forget how it impressed me when you go through the train tunnel and you don't get run over by the train LOL.
*Hall of presidents - I was enamored by the animatronics (I became a Mechanical Engineer...)
*Shooting range - my mother denied me this experience because it was "extra money". I never let her live that down or anyone else whom suggests we don't have time for it. Now I see it's earmarked for removal. I hope I get one more chance to experience it before.

Before our recent family trips I only went once sometime between 1982-1985 and remember 20,000 Leagues and Space Mountain. Not much else I'm sorry to say. It seems like I climbed some sort of large rope ladder up to a pirate ship but that could've been at Sea World. I can barely remember what I did yesterday. ☺️ I think @Tuvalu and I may have talked about this in the past but again my mind isn't the best at remembering things.

I hope you get to shoot at the range. The shooting range was one of those things that I kept walking past and would say "I'm going to do that next time" and never did. Now I know I won't make it back by the time it gets taken down.

Rumor has it, shooting range will close on or about Memorial day. I am working in SC this summer from May to August so I might have to buzz down for a one day adult alone trip......

I hope you get to make it. My Disney trips have been less and less frequent now that the kids are grown and the husband wants to experience other things. I may have to do one of those adult alone trips myself. 😁
