Meeting Creepy Mickey in Town Square.............

Hey all......I forgot to add in my trip report that my wife and I met "Creepy" Mickey at the Town Square Theatre. I am not a fan of the animated Mickey face and the responses he gives sometimes doesn't match with what you say to him. For example, he asked a couple in front of us where they were from and they said, "here"(Florida). His response was "Did you drive or fly"? My wife and I looked at each other and laughed. Even though the costumed characters don't talk, you can still interact with them without feeling like it is scripted. Meeting Creepy Mickey felt too scripted and not natural. Anyone else have this experience?

Funny... Last month, my wife and daughters met Mickey on their second day at MK(me and my son did not go for a second day). They did not know he was animated there and their comments were the same..." Creepy and scary". Luckily, we still had DHS and a visit with Fantasmic Mickey or as they said... the "Normal" Mickey!

Talking Mickey is pretty cool IMO. They had to get to the park somehow, right! They could've flown a private plane and landed it right on top of the California Grill :p I've never been with younger children meeting Talking Mickey, but I can see how it's confusing meeting just one talking fur character in all of WDW!

Maybe I'm missing something since I'm a midwesterner, but don't people fly to WDW from other areas of Florida? Aren't areas like Pensacola over 7 hours by car to Orlando? I realize it was just an example but it doesn't seem like such a strange question to me.

The way the woman responded to the question made it sound like she was not too far away when she said "here" as if she was right down the road. She also had a puzzled look on her face when Creepy Mickey asked her.

Yes, I agree,I was going to say that. Florida is a very big state, and I know many people that live in Florida who fly into Orlando because they live well over many hours away. So I don't think Mickeys response is that outlandish. However, I have never experienced talking Mickey so I really don't know how he comes off to people.

Yea, it is far less creepy to spend time talking to a stone face, quiet Mickey that we have heard speak since Steamboat Willie. It's not creepy, just something we are not used to seeing in character interaction. I think it's about time that they animate the faces and have them speak. It is not anymore creepy then it is to queue up to spend time with a costumed character to begin with.

There is far more interaction talking to a "stone face" character than one who has a list of responses to answer back to you. At least the non talking characters can react anyway they want and do get their point across through actions, not words and are not bound to a pre-recorded script. The idea seemed really cool but up close and live, it was creepy.

so, we are taking the 2, 3 and 5 year olds in a few weeks.
I thought we'd go see this mickey
but we are not planning to take them to see some of the children/plastic character heads, like Sophia the first, or the little Einsteins, because we think they imagine these characters as being their size, not grown up size, and don't want to disillusion them. Sophia's head is the size of a boulder, a little unsettling......
so do you think we should skip this one too?

yes, I get the inconsistency, Mickey is a mouse and not human size also, but he is not a person/child that they identify with when they watch the cartoons.

That's a good point about Sofia. I will have to think about that for my daughter and how she would feel meeting a huge Sofia.

Kids see people on TV as well, but aren't surprised when they are much bigger in real life. I don't think kids have a problem with that at all. To kids the whole earthly population is composed of giants.
