WALT DISNEY CO.Geared towards pre-schoolers aged 2-7, she joins a long line of Disney heroines that include Snow White, Jasmine, Mulan and Cinderella.
WALT DISNEY CO.Meet Sofia the First -- Walt Disney's first princess who is not an adult
Deadline reports that the diminutive princess will have her own animated TV movie next fall and, in 2013, will continue her adventures on The Disney Channel and Disney Junior channels.
The character is geared towards pre-schoolers.
Other Disney princesses include Cinderella, Jasmine, and Mulan.
Disney says that the new princess will focus on teaching young ones age-appropriate themes like how to share, be kind to others and getting along with brothers and sisters.
General Manager for Disney Junior Worldwide, Nancy Kanter, tells the Hollywood Reporter that there will be "plenty of pretty dresses and sparkly shoes." She will inform little ones that "what makes a real princess is what's inside, not what's outside."
According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Disney Princess toy line brings in roughly $4 billion in retail receipts so it probably won't be long before she apears in theme park gift shops and nationwide toy stores.
Ariel Winter (ABC's "Modern Family") will voice Sofia. Sara Ramirez ("Grey's Anatomy") will voice Queen Miranda; Wayne Brady ("Whose Line Is It Anyway?") will star as Clover, a wise-talking rabbitand Tim Gunn ("Project Runway") will be Baileywick, the family's Royal Steward.
