Oh I'm not canceling, 3 women canceled their trip on the tour operator. I'm working for the tour operator, a small boutique travel company that gives women only vacations. Clients usually are single (for whatever reason) ladies, who want to travel but dont want to go alone. Just finished up a fabulous trip to Iceland. As I said, fear often times is not rational. Get no argument from me on that point but then again if human beings were perfectly rational then a lot of stuff would not be happen.
How many people have an irrational fear of flying even though it's one of the safest modes of transportation??

I actually know a few families with very smart people who are actually going to wdw in lieu of Europe.
I never question their reasons, lol I just encourage them to get "cancel for any reason " trip insurance.

😆 now whether or not their "virgins" of any kind...we're classy, we stopped doing pelvic exams a while back
The vestal virgins was a very dated joke based on a Procol Haram song from way back. I guess I'm a bit triggered as a Brit who flew into Orlando 3 weeks after 9/11 with my sister and brother in law plus 4 kids ( 1 special needs) when we could have cancelled after rumors of Florida being a potential next target. We discussed the situation, had a family agreement that even though we could have got an insurance refund, we would not be intimidated by aggression and would stand by the U.S. As well as Disney, we visited SeaWorld and you know that tradition they have where they shout out, "Stand Up if you're from Ohio, etc"? Well they did that when we were there and 70% of the crowd stood up when they said "Stand Up if you're from the England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland" The person on the microphones then said "Thank you. If you guys hadn't shown up we would have had to close by now." It grates that there is less solidarity in reverse. Don't encourage or celebrate people who fear their own shadow.

Just back from WDW. We do WDW every other year (DL in the opposite years) and I agree with the comments re: guests (both at WDW and DL*). This trip the guests were much more rude and also seemed to let their kids run wild (and I’m not the get off my lawn type) I missed Hoop dee doo. While I was never a fan of FP+ I really do not like Genie. I miss MDE. But Disney is still Disney. We had an outstanding time. Our last trip was 2019 (this trip should have been 2021), Rat is new, Galaxy’s Edge, Skyliner, Space 220. Is it perfect? No, but we had a blast anyway. We’re talking about a quick trip this Fall as well (Missed Everest that much, and want to see Guardians).

*On our first DL trip, our very first few minutes there, my son (then 7) ran up to the CM and asked if he could ride upfront. The CM apologized, there was another family waiting ahead of us. That family told us to go instead. You’d never see that at WDW.

The unrest in Europe is the primary reason we’ve been able to afford visiting 3 times in the last decade, we haven’t been back since 2018 though, our 2020 trip obviously got cancelled and we don’t feel comfortable spending that amount of money in the current climate, we are jonesing to visit DLP for the 30th though, we just want to feel more comfortable that another variant won’t cause another closure first. We are ok with the 1 in a billion risk of a terrorist attack but Covid is still too big a risk.

Our first trip in 2015 a French girl on the RER overheard our group talking and asked if we were from America, we thought we were being too loud so we apologized and she said “no, I just wanted to thank you for visiting, we used to hate tourists but now we miss them”.

I live in Las Vegas and it’s similar here, it’s funny how quickly tourists go from annoying to missed when numbers drop.

No worries, I think for me the disconnect is that you think it's intentional or about "solidarity". Its really not. As I said having a fear or phobia isn't rational. Think about it, why wouldn't the tour company want them to go, it's lost revenue. Encourage?? So let me ask you, someone who has a fear of flying what do you do?? Force them by gunpoint to fly because the place they are going needs the money ??
First of all it's not my place to tell anyone how they should feel about THEIR comfort level. One of the reasons I dont do moderates or values is because i dont stay in places where to door leads directly outside. Yep probably neurotic considering my front door of my house leads outside but what can I say, my comfort level when i travel says differently.
All we can do is reassure them of the things that we can control, no different than when people canceled from fear of covid.

Now I'm happy that was you're comfort level on 9/12, I am from NY and I have zero problems with admitting it took me a few years before we felt comfortable traveling, let alone flying so while I wont celebrate someone who is overly cautious neither am I about to brow beat, cast aspersions or name call someone who chooses differently.

I respect their right to do so. My original point was simply that Disney may benefit from folks who changed their minds and decide to stay stateside

Just don't encourage people to lack courage or justify their lack of solidarity. Maybe Europeans are less "phobic" or maybe they were braver, stauncher supporters of America than some Americans. I don't criticize NY residents for post 9/11 trauma. I do wonder why Idaho. Alabama, Texas, Carolina etc residents were absent from Orlando when Europeans weren't. Just call out the cowardly lions who cancel visits to Europe through ignorance and come on boards like this and encourage others to think it is rational to cancel holidays in Europe. It should be about solidarity, not fear-mongering and your original post was fear-mongering.

Also, being bombed in your apartment, or hospital, or kindergarten in Ukraine does not equate to your fear of stepping out of the door onto walkway at the Coronado (or similar) resort.

I think a lot of Americans who have cancelled their plans for European vacations this year has more to do with covid and the uncertainty of how specific countries handles outbreaks/waves and what could even be open to tourists to visit. For our family, that is the primary reason we cancelled our trip to Spain, France, and Italy the summer. Never have viewed our travels to Europe has "solidarity" for one country or another nor would I view that for travelers who visit the US. People should be able to cancel their trips abroad without feeling shamed for doing so and feeling as if we're not supportive of one another's countries.

Can’t wait to visit in August and see it all through my 6 year olds sons eyes because adult Disney ‘fans’ just constantly make it sound miserable to visit
