Mears Connect - a Joke if Small Kids

Out of curiosity, just looked at the price for Mears Connect for a January trip and checked out the FAQ for car seats…

“Car seats will not be offered with the Mears Connect service…service may be on a motor coach, shuttle van or small vehicle. If a guest has a personal car seat, they are welcome to use it.”

So I’m supposed to schlep two cars seats in case my Mears vehicle requires them? What a joke. Non-starter.

I think the problem is, many people when they book this transportation are probably expecting a bus. I really am surprised Mears wasn't able to just pick up the Disney Magical Service, bags and all and add it as an option. I think many people would be willing to do 20 a person if it meant not having to go to baggage and then getti g on those nice Disney buses, but the service offered now, just bring the car seat and Uber or taxi to resorts or rent a car.
It’s this. I emailed Mears Connect to find out if it was possible to know if we might be on a bus or in a smaller vehicle. They said they wouldn’t be able to know ahead of time. We might be put on a big bus, a big van, or a cab. While I’m not excited about my 8 month old riding the big Mears bus unrestrained, I’m absolutely not ok with her being unrestrained in a cab. So I followed up and asked if I could install a car seat on the bus, if that’s what we ended up with, and they said no. I could store it underneath. So we decided we would just rent a car. When the kids are bigger, a mystery vehicle won’t be such an issue, but that’s 5ish years away.

I am guessing you probably have one of those strollers where you can put the baby in the car seat and have it snap into the stroller, bring that, it will make pushing them so much easier in the airport. Good luck!

Thanks! We don’t, actually. But we have a foldable wheel thing to put the big car seat on so moving through the airport is as good as you’d expect with three kids, a car seat, and various backpacks…

And this is where having that bag delivered to your room is missed. For parents who need every free hand they can get, being able to drop off checked luggage at your departing airport and not seeing it till you check into the hotel was great. That was the best aspect of Magical Express to me, because we always rented a car anyway, but I would get the car while my wife and kids would take the bus to the resort so we could have the bag delivery.

No kidding! Really looking forward to dragging our luggage all over the places. We’ll try to pack light, but that’s hard with kids.

Just wanted to add a quick note to this thread. We just returned from Disney. My family decided to drive (from MA!) which worked out wel for us in the end. My sister and her kids flew from CA. On their check out day they were supposed to be picked up at Kidani at 4pm for their 7pm flight. They were out there by 3:30. With two kids and luggage they didn’t want to be late. Well, no bus showed up. There was another family waiting for the 4:30 bus. My sister tried to find a phone number to call and eventually connected with someone who wanted to know what the number on the bus was. Of course, my sister couldn’t tell her because there was no bus. At 4:35 a Mears bus arrived but was just dropping passengers off. It wasn’t picking up. Luckily my kids and my sister’s kids are about the same size so they fit in our car seats. We got our car and drove them to the airport. They just made their flight. Hopefully that other family made it too, but who knows. When we go in July we’re definitely using the train company. My mom had no trouble with them.
