Mean CM at Pirates

Please BeachClub, make sure the situation is resolved to your satisfaction beofre giving up. It is not far to the good, devoted CMs to and your fellow guests to have a rude CM working at Disney. I understand we can slip up or be interpretted as being rude, but this guy was just being a jerk, and that should not be tolerated, take action.

There really isn't anything I can do about it now. It happend in June. I don't remember the CMs name, and I don't want him to get fired. I understand that he's supposed to put four people in the row. I just think that he should have listened to us instead of telling us to diet!

To add on to what I said before, I don't want this particular CM to say anything to another family like what he said to my family. I was horribly embarassed when he told my entire family and me that we should be on diets. You just don't tell a teenage girl that, no matter what. On the other hand, I don't know what was going on in this guy's life. He may have just broken up with a girlfriend (or boyfriend), lost a family member, or just had a really bad day. That's why we didn't report him or anything.

ooooh ooh!! I have a Story! Okay, so last time I was on pirates, I went with my granddad and he videotapes everything, which is allowed as long as the light isnt on. We were going throgh the cave at the beginning and we came up to the part where you are about to go down the drop where the skulls etc are, our boat and the audio comes to a complete hault and we hear some lady really yelling: "EXCUSE me!,But quit doing that and DON'T let me catching you doing that again! Yes YOU! Thats Not Allowed! or you will speak with security upon unoading!.. and sir turn the camera off immediately! and as the audio kicked back in and we started going down the drop I said "have a magical day!" ... I was freaking out cause it was so unexpected... there must be cameras and speakers on the rides.. I had no idea they could do that.. and I still dont know wat made her get angry... I don't think it was the camera ut she never really specified

If you have five people will they not let you split up into 2 and 3... id hate to think that someone would have to sit alone. (probably me)

great Cm's

About 4 years ago I was at WDW to march in the spectromagic parade in High School. Well since the group I was hanging around with liked Pirates we went on it about 17 times in one day during the spring break period. There was 12 of us doing this and after the Cm's started to notice we kept coming back right after another they started making jokes and we got our own boat everytime. Our group started singing the Yo ho song and all that good stuff. Well one of the Cm's found the lyrics and printed them up for us to sing to. As we would leave the loading area up in the booth one of them would be conducting us as we sung. I don't know if it would have gotten them in trouble but right before the drop they came over the speaker and told us to watch the drop. The best part is that on one trip we were loaded on and the right before the fire area in the ride we hear footsteps and bang. The guy who loaded us into the boat jumped on it since he was moving to the unloading section.

All I have to say is that this is one of many great times that I have had in all my years going to WDW and everytime I go on Pirates I think of this. Only if all Cm's were this great.

That employee would be fired so fast that he wouldn't even see it coming! [/B]

Only if the statement was witnessed by other CM's or by a member of management - and they were willing to testify to it.

Yeah, I know - that attitude is wrong and I don't agree with it. I'm quite sure that the CM was terribly out of line...I've just recently learned (at my own workplace) that you have to have lots of witnesses.

Unfortunately, companies only protect the interest of "the company" - the word of a guest or a harassed employee don't really matter.

The company has every right to make sure they are covered, why must we have witnesses??? Well because there are some people out there that will claim discrimination or something like that, so without a witness it seems like one person vs. another. It's not that Disney does not care about our guests, heck no!, but they have to follow business ethics as well. I am sure this CM has been talked to and if it were to persist he will be out of job shortly.

Bottom line Merlin, Dad got out of the boat. That's a BIG safety issue. Read the story again!
If YOU read the story, Dad was told to get out of the boat by the CM to move into the row with the other two....

Sadly there seems to be an increasing number of 'jobsworth' CM's around at WDW who put process way, way above customer satisfaction.

Well to let you know...Pirates does have cameras but what she said was bad form. You are not suppose to single out people when speiling into the ride. However...video taping is not always allowed even when the camera light is off. Alot of times in dark spaces special cameras are used to watch you and sometimes when you use a video camera (even with the light off) it will create a glare on the monitor that keeps you from being to see the screen. That may have been the reason you where asked to stop video taping.

Wasn't Rob a harassed employee? (yes)

Did he get listened to? (no!)

Sounds like he and I are in about the same boat...

To be fair though, I have seen things go the other way as well....my b/f lost his job at a very large discount chain thanks to a customer complaint.

What I meant was that the kid harrased Rob and The parents told Robs Supervisor that Rob harrassed the kid and Their wasn`t any witnesses so Robs supervisor took the guests word for it and fired Rob. So The guest didn`t need any witnesses they just took the guests word.

Well, in reading all of these posts about good/bad service, it one thing occurs to me:

Have we all lost our sense of humor?

Now, I'm not condoning the use of rude/foul language, but it sure seems like we all take things way too seriously these days. Is it me, or is everyone itching for a fight these days? I mean, every time I turn on the television, there's another story about how someone "said" something to someone else, and now everyone's upset about it. We should be worrying about a lot more serious issues in this world, than what someone "said" to us. And I don't want to hear how "words" can hurt. I understand that there are times when words cut deep. But I beleive it is a true measure of a person to walk away from situations like this without confrontation. Having said that, confronting the CastMember was another option. Take him/her off to the side and express your views in an adult manner. Let's remember in a lot of cases the CastMembers tend to be very young or very old. Either way, some latitude may be in order, but again, I'm not condoning rude behavior.

It just seems to me that our society has turned into a very aggressive/get even type of society. It's funny how people can get so upset about things like this, yet when it comes to defending our country, things seem to change. (just some food for thought)

The thing that bothers me about this story is that the boat was LOADED. Then everything was stopped. *all other boats*. The boat was "unloaded" and then "reloaded" . So you've wasted all this time. AND THEN TO LEAVE THE SEAT EMPTY. That takes nerve! I would have been ticked and probably have climbed over after we were out of the station. Of course, who knows what would have happened then. Lights on, spotlight on you with one leg on either side of the seat...!

I don't think Disney would tolerate a CM treating a guest in that manner nor do I think that a guest would put up with it. I was scanning this thread and if I am correct. I don't see where BeachClubVillas has posted another message. Dosen't that seem kind of odd?

I don't believe it either. If this truly happened as it did, then I would think a complaint to guest services would be in order. I haven't had to share a row with anyone on POTC in years. Even when it was crowded. I sometimes tour MK by myself and have always gotten row to myself.
