Meal plan question

I am travelling on the free meal plan. I have read conflicting reports on how it works. Some say it starts the day after check in, some say the day of check in. We arrive around noon on Sept 2. Will we have food right after check in or do we wait a day?

It starts the day you check into the hotel. The number of meals is based on the number of nights you are staying, not days, so if you are staying 6 nights, 7 days, you are entitled to 6 sit down meals, 6 snacks, 6 counter service meals. You do have until midnight on the last day (which would be the 7th day) to use up your meals, snacks, etc. So you can use your first meal if you wanted right after you checked into the resort.

Also, you are not restricted as to how/when you use your meals/snacks. You have a "bank" of meals and snack credits that you can use as you see fit. For instance, trhe day you arrive, you may not be hungry enough to use a snack, quick serivice and sit down meal that day. You could get a quick service meal when you get to the park the day you arrive and then use a sit down credit later that same day. So on some other day during your vacation, you could maybe have 2 snacks. Bottom line, you have the freedom to use your credits when you see fit and whenever you use them, you will get a print out of what credits you have remaining on your Dining Plan. Hope this helps!:)

yes thank you this is helpful. We are staying 7 nights so will have seven days worth of food. We leave early on departure day, Sept 9 so I guess we will only use a counter service that day leaving an extra sitdown meal and snack. The next question would be when we will have time to eat all the food:) because we are arriving later in the day on Sept 2.

Since you are going early in September, it will still be hot, so use the extra snacks for bottled water, or if you want you can even use up the remainder of your snacks at food court of your hotel the morning of or night before you leave and take them with you for your flight (chips, etc.), this way everyone has a snack for the trip.

The way in which we worked our meals were that every morning we would use our counter service for breakfast at the hotel and sit down meals at night, but then we arrived mid-day and left late afternoon. But if you are coming in late and leaving early, I would recommend doing a sit down meal during your stay that requires 2 points to use them up.

Also - BEWARE -

Eating 2 sit down meals in one day is dangerous.....trust me....

LOTS of food....if you plan to have 2 sit downs in one day, you may want to space them far apart....like noon and nine......

Once again.....LOTS of food....

Have fun!

We also arrived late on our first day. I used the sit down meal credit from that day to go to the Hoop Dee Doo Review, which requires two credits. It worked out great!

I might make a suggestion... Get your priority seating reservations made NOW. The best restaurants tend to fill up quickly, especially during this period where everyone will be on the free dining plan.

A lot of people don't prepare, and show up for their vacation without any reservations, and are furious when they have a hard time finding restaurants that they can use their table service meals in because everything is packed already.

Also note: Your credits are based on the # of nights, not number of days in your stay. We planned our meals based on the latter, so we had to alter our plans a bit, but nothing too disruptive.

We were in Disney New Year's 2004 so I know all about reservations. I just was not sure how many to make (7 or 8) or if I could book on the first day.

AS a side note we booked in April and I called reservations right away and still could not get all the times I wanted. We are eating earlier or later than we wanted. I also have our days planned around our sit down meals.

The wife-to-be and I went last August and made pre-trip dining reservations. We ended up scrapping them due to all the fun we were having...it seems as though we just aren't the park jumpers we thought we were...

That being said, we were successful in making new arrangements while in-park via phone or guest services. We also made a couple of in-restaurant time changes (moving our reservations back). That being said, we foudn that the later you eat, the more enjoyable our days were.....many lines ease up during the typical dinners hours. However, if you want to watch the fireworks presentations (especially at EPCOT), make reservations asap for the Rose and Crown and as for a table where you can watch the show.

Have a fantastic time.

2 more cents....the best meal we had was at Chefs de France.
