MCO to Disney

Hi!. I'm taking my first solo trip to Disney is a week, and I have a question about getting from the airport to the Disney property. How much time should I allow to get luggage, get a rental car, and drive to Disney? I'm just trying to figure out my arrival day plans. If anyone has any insight, that would be great!

Hi I would say that it will take you about 1 hour 20 mins to get throught security and get your luggge and depending on what car hire company you use it can take anything from 10 mins to 1 hour to get a rental, and the journey from MCO to Disney is about 45 mins (or quicker if you are in a racing mood) so in all the time from getting off the plane it should take about 3 -4 hours.

hope this helps and have a fantastic holiday.

I have been in 2 min and 50 min car rental lines before. I am not a luxe member or anything, and had to wait quite a while for certain companies. I forget which one, but I know if you show up in the morning on lets say a Saturday, you could see looong lines.
Good luck!

Keep an eye out to see if your rental company has self-serve kiosks. I know that Alamo has them.

I've bypassed a huge, non-moving Alamo line simply by using the kiosks over to the side that absolutely noone was using. I was done and out to the garage in about 4 minutes. (And when people saw me do that, the kiosks were instantly popular. Amazing how people will join a line without thinking, and ignore other options)

Also, if you're using a company with an in-airport counter and there's a huge line and no self-serve kiosks, trying going upstairs and over to the other side of the terminal. Each in-airport car rental company has two counters, one on the A-side and one on the B-side. 99.9% of the time people just go to the counter on the side where their airline's baggage claim is located. But if one side had a large number of planes all arrive at once, you could have a long line on one side of the terminal, but nothing on the other.
So if you're on the A-side, just go back upstairs to Level 3, cross over to the B-side, and go down to Level 1 to check the line on that side. (or vice versa)

If you don't really need the rental car (i.e., plans to go off property) take advantage of Disney's Magical Express service. They take you to your resort and pick up and deliver your luggage to your room. I've used it 3 times now, and average time from getting off the plan to standing in the check-in desk was about 90 minutes.

After you get the car, about 20-25 minutes. Take 417, less traffic. (South exit of airport) and you'll probably want to get off at 535/I Drive and take that straight until it turns into Epcot Center drive.

Unless you're headed to Pop Century, All-Stars, Coronado or AKL, in which case continuing on until Osceola Parkway is the better route. (Though I think doing so costs you an additional 50-cents)

I've always gone straight to the rental counter, then gone and picked up my luggage, can save some time, and I don't have to drag my suitcase around with me.

Whatever you do, rent in-terminal only. I've been out of the airport and on the road in as little as 20 minutes (carry on bags). But it depends what kind of line you get at the counter.

2 trips ago, my flight got in at 9:40, and I walked through the gates of DAK at 10:50.

Thanks for the advice everyone! It looks like the best thing to do is to err on the side of caution, and just make plans shooting for much later after I land.

Thank you much!

I think this is the way I always took to and from the airport while I was on my program. It was a lot easier/faster than the I4 way.

But why are you renting a car instead of doing magical express? I've done magical express 6 times and love it. The longest I've been in line was 20 min in July and I've always been to my resort within 2 hours of getting to the airport and I don't have to touch my luggage and can sleep on the road (never happened since I wanna see the sights on the way).

Oh, sorry, I probably should have specified. I'm actually not staying at a Disney resort, I'm staying at the Wyndham Bonnet Creek. A car is a must. :)

If you are renting with National, you can sign up for their "Emerald Isle" service. When I do rent, thats who I use (otherwise I am a big fan of DME)

With Emerald Isle, you skip the counter and self-serve kiosk entirely. You just go over to the garage, walk down the lane marked "Emerlald Isle" and pick the car you want. When you get to the gate to leave, you give the person your credit card and the paperwork you printed out at home, and then you are on your way.
