Hey guys, quick question--when exactly is the Matterhorn supposed to be up and running again? When I was at DL in October, for some reason I was led to believe that it would be reopened by Christmas Vacation, but now it's not looking like that's true. Anybody know any details--and not just the reopening date but how extensive of a rehab are they doing this time?

Thanks in advance.

I know the ride will be down at least a year. It IS down for Christmas because I wanted to ride it when I was there on Friday but.. couldn't cause it was down. I'm not sure how extensive the rehab is but it is supposed to be fairly intensive :).

The crux of the story is that all of the tunnels inside the attraction are being increased in width and height to allow more clearance for riders in the coaster.

A Year???!!! Wow! Is that really true? When I was there in late November, I could tell the work they were doing was pretty extensive, but that will really bite to be without the Matterhorn for a whole year!!

It should be open by early to mid March (currently, the opening is set at February 13, 2003, but it may be pushed back a bit). The refurbishment is meant to:
A. Widen the tunnels
B. Add Fastpass (Birnbaum's already lists it as a Fastpass attraction)
C. Possibly add new trains, with individual seats a la Splash Mountain
D. Hopefully make the Abominable Snowman look more lifelike:)

The closure will not be a full year...more along the lines of 7 to 8 months...still lengthy:)

I was really disappointed when I went in late December to see that it was closed :( I thought it would only be for like a day or something!!!

It was all fenced of, and these workmen were walking in and out of the mountain, you could see them from far off

Still closed as of Jan 01, you can see they still have major work going on in the making of the tunnels wider.. On the old ride, you could reach out and touch the overhead rocks in numerous places, it was kinda dangerous if you held your hands up...
