Imagination Pavilion - Home of Figment
The Imagination Pavilion - Home of Figment is a huge expansion on the past land, adding 3 brand new attractions and emphasising on the star of the Pavilion, Figment! Although no alterations were made to the exterior facades or landscaping, everything inside the new and revolutionary. So the first attraction...
Journey Inside Your Imagination
This new version of the classic Imagination Pavilion dark ride adds a new story and a new revolutionary technology. So before I go into ride details, I want to explain this technology to you. It's called NeuroSky, but we'll be calling it the Imagiscanner! Here's a quick clip to explain it easily...
So basically, it's mind control. The main things I hope you noticed in that video were the Attention and Meditation readings it was able to read. So when you imagine, you pay attention right? And when your deep into imagination, your in a relaxed meditated state. The two exact reasons why this is perfect for an imagination ride. Guests will hear an adjustable headset with the technology in it, as well as 3-D glasses attached (As seen in picture below).
The 3-D will be used for background projections in all scenes and occasionally, a projected Figment. Guests will be required to imagine things to help out Figment in a journey into their own imagination. Confusing right? Don't worry, it will be further explained later. Now for the full guest experience.
Facade
I decided to stick with the current building, just a few new signage and a paint job that really emphasises on shades of purple.
Queue
Enter the Imagination Labs, quite similar to your normal scientific lab interiors, just a touch more purple. As you walk through different parts of the labs, you will encounter different experiments being performed, some even on you! For example, a monkey wearing an Imagiscanner and creating a giant banana. These wacky gags keep guests entertained for their short time in the queue (hopefully). Instead of heading straight to the loading zone, guests will enter a pre-show. This will be explained later in the story section, for now I need to explain the ride vehicle.
Ride Vehicle
The ride vehicle in Journey Inside Your Imagination is similar to the current vehicle, in the sense that it also rotates 360 degrees, the movement however is very different. The new system uses LPS, but not to throw guests around the room unpredictably. I chose LPS to evoke a feeling of real adventure in the guests, so they felt like they really were inside their imagination and not on a track in a show building. The vehicle now has 2 rows, 3 seats to each, and both raised at an elevation giving everyone a view. In front of each guests seat is a digital counter and a power gauge. These are used for recording imagination power and score (explained further later). Here is an image of the vehicle with annotations.
Story
I wrote my ride up onto a script and am going to put the link below, it was easier than on the forums. I hope this isn't an problem for anyone. The pre-show and ride scripts should explain the story well but I will give you a quick summary. We are going to be the first to journey into our own imaginations and Figment is tagging along. He is going to show us how an idea goes from start to finish. Guests will be using their own imaginations (read by the Imagiscanners) to help Figment achieve this task. Figment will explain more about it in the pre-show. I also just want to note, my Figment is much different to the past versions. I ditched the curious child personality and went for a more smart mentor but left the funny unpredictable side of him. Here is the script, I hope you enjoy.
Exit Experience
As much as I hate them, they are a necessary part of a theme park so yes, there is a gift shop. But inside that gift shop is a staircase which leads up to a brand new experience in the imagination pavilion. This brings me to my next attraction.
Figment's House
The character we all love is now inviting us into his house, and for a special reason too! On this day many years ago, you imagined him. That's right, it's his birthday! Guests will be able to walk through his fun, imaginative house then meet him in a new show experience. Here is an overhead map of the walkthrough attraction.
First the
Garden. This beautiful outdoor setting is complete with green grass and Animatronic plants that move, dance and sing! Guests will then walk through the front door into the
Curvy Hallway. The walls covered with paintings of Famous Figments (E.g. Albert Einstein's Figment, Walt Disney's Figment etc.) will slowly close in as you walk further until you are struggling to squeeze through! But once you do make it out, entire the trippy
Room Of Mirrors. The walls are covered with mirrors facing in all different angles, even the floor and roof are covered. You won't know which way is right and which way is left. Now guests are faced with two options, let's start with the
Moon Room. A room made entirely out of bouncing castle (or Moon Bounce, whatever it is in the states
) But the name isn't there for no reason. Look up and see and amazing open view of the stars and a great big Moon! If you feel your too old for that, it's alright! Cool off in Figment's
Bathroom/Laundry! Walk through a small corridor packed with spritzers, squirters and sprayers all leading up to a huge water fight tower made of showers! But if you don't feel like staying wet, don't stress it! Walk out the exit through Figment's human sized drier. It'll get you dry in time! Now let's see where Figment goes after a hard day of having fun, his
Bedroom. Figment hates hot weather when he sleeps, so his room is stuck in permanent winter! Complete with snow storms and ice beds! Doesn't all that cold make you hungry? It sure does for Figment, luckily his
Kitchen is across the hall! This 50's diner themed kitchen is complete with singing cutlery, plates and pots for a classic 50's tune! Tired of all this walking? Take a rest in the
lounge room! Sit back on Figment's oversized couch and watch 3 different hand drawn Figment shorts on his oversized TV!
Okay, so we've enjoyed his stuff, time to meet the man himself, Figment! In Brainstorming with Figment guests will experience a Turtle Talk like experience, and help Figment celebrate his birthday. Here is a quick sketch of the experience which gives an example of the lighting used and seating. (Note: this was a very fast sketch, the scale is not accurate! No obese Figment will be included in the attraction!)
Guests will exit the theatre and be given the choice of returning to the house or exiting back into the gift shop, maybe so they have time to watch the last brand new attraction in the Pavilion.
Imagination to Inspiration: A Circle-Vision 360 Presentation
This attraction is the replacement the current disaster known as Captain EO. It will transform the 3D cinema into a CircleVision theatre. I do not have any concepts or mapping for this attraction as it is very simple just to explain.
Waiting Room
Guests wait in a room with walls covered with memorabilia and personal belongings of the the film's three main stars. Walt Disney, Jim Henson and John Lasseter. 3 imaginative pioneers I felt were the perfect example of Imagination to Inspiration.
The Movie
The movie is hosted by the star of the Pavilion, Figment! The movie will be broken up into 3 segments based on a different person (Jim Henson, John Lasseter then Walt Disney). Each segment will explain the troubles and success they encountered and some of their best examples of imagination! These will be explained by their own Figment's of their Imagination. And no they will not all look like Figment, in fact they will be unique to each person. Jim will have a puppet Figment, John will have a 3D animated Figment and Walt will have a black and white hand drawn Figment. The final scene will be the 3 inspirations having a conversation with each other (using technology similar to that used to create Rod Serling in the Twilight Zone) and then telling the audience to never give up on their dreams. Imagination is endless, with it we can do anything, be anything and dream anything!
Exit Experience
3 Wax Figures of each inspiration in the movie will be located at the exit for pictures.
So that's my Pavilion, I hope you guys liked it. I was very busy with exams this week so it's not at the standard I had hoped but I feel it will work. I chose the attractions in a particular order to have guests leaving in a different state of mind than what they entered in. The attractions are supposed to show them the power of their imagination, show them what can be done, then inspire them to use it for good in the world! Something I feel is perfect for Epcot.
Thank You WED99
