Wow.

Ugh, I really am not a fan of everyone simply blaming everything on Chapek, but one can't deny that things have really gone off the deep end since he was put in charge.

/D'Amaro?
Perhaps not ‘entirely’ on Chapek… but he’s still the guy D’Amaro has to answer/get approval from. With that in mind, I’d put more of the blame on Chapek since he genuinely has the authority to pass on certain pitches/decisions.

I just have one thought reading all this: When a company (any company, remember Sears), damages it's brand name, it is difficult if not impossible to get back.
I remember when Sears was THE brand name for appliances. They were the best and lasted years. Then the downward slide began and now they are practically out of the business. There are many others.
Maybe disney thinks it is beyond all that and they are immune? I don't know, but this feels different. There are lots of angry, dissatisfied long time disney fans, and that is not good. Are they going to bring their kids/gkids to disney as it is now? I don't think so. Our kids/gkids are done with disney and want to do other things. It was a fun thing until it started changing, but now they like Universal, Sea world, etc, and Island beach vacations. I know my husband and I won't be back until things are changed completely to excellent customer service and a quality experience, if that is even possible anymore.

I'm willing to put money down that people are only still willing to go because they have space mountain, big thunder, haunted mansion, pirates (which Disney is slowly ruining), splash (which they ARE ruining), etc. But even then, their terrible maintenance plan will make once peak attractions look like they need some desperate TLC, like we're already seeing with Dinosaur, Expedition Everest, ToT, and so on.

It's a very difficult scenario. Personally for me, going to Disney's California Adventure is now akin to visiting the dollar store. Disneyland is slowly being cooked to death, and it's both a sad and terrible thing to see.

The board and management in general should all be held responsible. They'll start getting the message with dropping attendance and overselling shares, if that ever happens.

I honestly don't see a drop in attendance happening anytime soon. Even though we complain and even though some of the general population is noticing the decline in quality of what Disney puts out these days there will always be the hundreds of thousands of people who do not notice or care. Disneyland is so ingrained in our country's culture as a vacation destination for families that even people who don't follow the park news and don't know what's going on and changing will want to take their children. Even I still want to go as I haven't visited in almost 4-5 years because I loved the park growing up and I want to see RotR. The stuff before modern Disney is still there for the most part and I enjoy that but there are so many changes making me worry I won't have as much of a good time like especially now with Genie+ and Mobile Ordering both being nightmares.

I think sadly Disney is at a point now where they're too big to fail unless they have one massive f up that everyone agrees is blatantly awful for guest experience. Even with many of us unhappy and more casual fans being unhappy there are plenty of people who would love to visit the parks (if they can afford the rising costs). My coworker today just told me she booked a trip for her family very last minute and she leaves on the 31st to fly down and she was excited about Genie+ and Lightning Lane being open at DLR now. I didn't get into any discussion about those things I just told her congrats and to have fun with her family but I don't know, Disneyland feels like such a big part of American entertainment that I can't imagine a world where it loses substantial customers. Just looking at social media seeing how the general population loves their Instagrammable moments and making Tik Toks in front of the castle and vloggers (not big channels even just couple hundred view videos) recording their days at the parks all generate attention and people who want to visit.

Oh no, I'm sorry to hear that about DCA. My husband and I are planning a trip to Az and Cal this Spring and want to include DL and DCA. I hope DL is not changing too much? We could skip DCA and just do DL, which we have never been to before. I've always wanted to go to DL so hope the experience is still worth it?

Definitely go if you haven’t. It’s still a good theme park with some great attractions. Its just not Disneyland.

How long are you going to be there? If it's for more than one day, I'd get hoppers and make sure you spend some time at DCA too.

I'm not sure how many days. We are picking up hubby's sister in Az and making the trip. I hope to stay 2 days, but with another person who may not be a disney fan, we might have to make it one day. I hope not! We will make time for DCA too. Thanks for the information:)

As @mickEblu said, it's no Disneyland, but there are some charming things about it. For instance, I really didn't like the Cars movie, but that area is really well done. I also enjoyed dining at Carthay and out on the deck at the Lamplight Lounge. I hope you have a great trip! I am also in MN and can't wait to get back.

If you've never been to DCA, I think it's worth at least a day. I'm just crabby because the changes they've made to that park since 2014 - 2016 ish has been terrible. It's no where near on the level as Disneyland, but you'll still have a great time since it'll be your first.

Cars Land is the only must IMO. It's a great all-around land.

LOL, I think we are all kinda crabby and crappy feeling about disney right about now!
We have never been to DL before. Well, my husband went when he was too young to even remember it. He lived in San Jose in the mountains for a few years. We will try DCA too:)

Yeah I hate what they ve done since 2016 too except for Grizzly Peak Airfield. I’d definitely always recommend someone traveling and going for the first time to make time for it. Especially if they re going to be at DLR two days or more. I can’t imagine going to WDW or any foreign park for the first time and skipping a park I haven’t been to.

Yep, same here about the movie. But carsland sounds like alot of fun! Thanks for the heads up of Carthay and the Lamplight Lounge. We don't have any idea where to dine. Another Mn. person who dreams of warm weather, Huh? We have gotten over a foot of snow in the past 5 days with more to come with -20 weather. Brrr.

Please don't let one person's unreasonably negative opinion deter you from visiting. California Adventure is a very good park with some great rides and theming. It will always be lesser than Disneyland, but that's an impossible standard to hold a theme park to. I would say with confidence that DCA is better than some of the parks at Walt Disney World. It's a very good second park and an important part of the Disneyland experience.

Make sure you have at least a full day in Disneyland. DCA is lackluster but is a fun half day park with flaws.

Personally if I had 1 day in the parks I would either spend 100% of it in Disneyland or if you can afford it get the Park Hopper and go to DCA to explore Cars Land and ride RSR as well as walk around Grizzly Peak Airfield and honestly the area by the Ghihrardelli shop is a cute area to relax in and have a snack. Soarin' is also great but I preferred the California version to the current World version. Basically I would try and think ahead of my top priorities in Disneyland and make sure I accomplish most / all of them before focusing on DCA but if in the late afternoon / early evening you feel you have time to spare check out DCA since that park closes earlier than Disneyland (as long as that hasn't changed since COVID I'm not sure) and then just head back to Disneyland. I can't speak on Avenger's Campus as I haven't been but I honestly will only do it if I have extra time whenever I visit next, there's not much reason for me to go to that section of the park since they rethemed ToT to GotG:MM.

I love Disneyland, but Grizzly River Run is probably my favorite ride in both parks. I like the Guardians of the Galaxy, Soarin', and Incredicoaster is probably my favorite coaster if one ignores theming. Radiator Springs Racers is way up there as well.

Tip for GRR: If it's not a hot day, bring a complete change of clothes. We even bring flip flops because one's shoes and socks get wet from spray shooting up from the drains on the last drop. There are free lockers around to the right of the entrance.

DCA is a great park to spend half a day in or a relaxed, slow full day in. It doesn't have nearly the same charm Disneyland does, but has it in small pockets here and there (Grizzly Peak trail, the Animation Building lobby, and the transition from Cars Land to Pacific Wharf being highlights for me). Food is also a highlight - Lamplight Lounge is great, and I still have a soft spot for Carthay as the best restaurant in either park (unless anyone here wants to take me to Club 33! 😂).

tl;dr You can have a very fun and complete day at DCA! Don't worry at all, I'd still fit it into your plans somehow.
