Mary Poppins-Where's the love?

But what of all that Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Mickey Mouse and friends, Oswald, Peter Pan and so forth merch that sells?

"Relevant" is a cheap Lindsey Naegle buzz word used to describe individuals to lazy to bother to try. There was a lovely MP snowglobe sold at the Disney Store years ago along with those paintings sold at Art of Disney and some WDCC figures. You can absoultely make merch for her film but generally it's more costly to produce since it's kind of hard to sell MP colouring books and glittery t-shirts. Since Disney has been going cheap on the merch for years now and catering to the 0-12 range (who obviously will never enjoy MP of course) it should suprise no one that MP isn't getting love in that department. At least her special edition DVDs have been actually special.

Well if they sold the snowglobe years ago and dont anymore, maybe there's a reason for that. I think disney could benefit from selling a lot of stuff that they dont. The whole resort exclusive merch is just one of them. As far as MP, I dont know, but I know that more kids know about stitch and buzz and are more likely to want stuff with them on it than MP.

While shopping last week through out WDW I noticed there was not really any merchandise geared to MP. I purchased 1 coffee mug. That's all that I could find.
NO t-shirts,pins,posters.Yes,there are a couple of meet & greets. But, there are no attractions. There are rides for both Stitch & 2 for Buzz Lightyear.
Funny but I don't recall either of those characters winning an Oscar!
BTW, that ever so small scene in GAMR doesn't count...not big enough.
Forget these crazy "Tea Parties" across America. We need one for Mary Poppins! Who's with me?

I agree. I think a dark ride where you ride the Mary go round horses through an animated looking world would be so cool. Sets, and projection. Awesome.

But not very realistic. looks like they're only going to cater to the things that bring them the most income. Miss Poppins doesn't really have a solid merchandise demographic she can sink her teeth into. The mouse is all about consumerism. just look at this new expansion.

I've been told that there isn't much MP merchandise because Disney doesn't actually own MP and would have to pay royalties, just like they do with Pooh and Narnia. The person who told me this would DEFINITELY know, so I believe him.

EDIT: In addition to that, I once asked a Photopass photographer at Epcot to take my pic with Mary and she told me they weren't allowed to sell the pictures because Disney doesn't own the rights. This matched the merch guy's information.

Again this ties into the cost of manufacturing Merch. Stitch and Buzz are owned by Disney and fit the 0-12 demographic so they can produce all the cheap plush, toys, books and what not much more easily than Mary Poppins. You could for example, make a costume for girls but I'm sure Cinderella is cheaper to do, and would liekly sell better becuase Disney puts out her image far more often.

At one point during the documentary "The Boys: The Sherman Brothers Story" D*ick Van talks about how he recently came across a 2 year old girl who immediately recognized him and sang "Jolly Holiday" in full with him. He then mentions that that's probably the 4th generation who has fallen in love with this movie and it's clear the movie will never go out of style.

Just because you can't plaster your enitre bedroom with MP stuff like Cars don't mean her movie is not enjoyed by children.
