I just had to share this. No matter what you're opinion is, this is a win for Disney.

Marvel's The Avengers is expected to cross the $600 million domestic box office threshold today, becoming one of only three films in history ever to reach this milestone. The superhero film's global total is now an estimated $1.438 billion, and it stands as the #3 film of all time globally and domestically.

Marvel's The Avengers opened in North America on May 4 with a staggering $207.4 million – the biggest domestic debut of all time – and has been shattering domestic box office records ever since including the industry's all-time second weekend record with $103 million; fastest film to reach $200 million (3 days), $300 million (9 days), $400 million (14 days), and $500 million (23 days); and highest Saturday ($69.5 million) and Sunday ($57 million) totals. It is the #4 film of all time internationally with $838.9 million.

Among only 12 films that have grossed $1 billion at the global box office, Marvel's The Avengers is one of five billion-dollar Disney releases, which also include Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, Alice in Wonderland, Disney•Pixar's Toy Story 3, and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.

There is some irony in the fact that to see the characters in the movie however you have to go to Universal.

Not for long.

Per the OP, I am sure Disney execs are still in stunned disbelief. Well except Iger who had the vision to buy Marvel.

Now just wait until the DVD and PPV numbers start rolling in. It is as if the mouse just won megabucks!

With the way Disney operates, this success does bother me a little. Nobody inside Disney proper was responsible for this film being good. It was all done by Marvel Studios. I fear that, as happened in the past with Disney, people may try to get themselves involved with the Marvel Studios gold mine and muck up the works.

We went yesterday to take the kids because they had not seen it yet. I was stunned that it was sold out. Yes a smaller theater and only four showings a day, but still sold out.

Thank you! It's hilarious reading through some of the Disney fansites & FB pages. I'm beginning to suspect many of the Disney Faithful strongly believe that Mickey Mouse himself rolled up his sleeves and created this film from scratch.

As a fan of superhero films in general, I'm glad this film is doing good, really. And yes it's a win for Disney. But sometimes I believe credit is being given where it isn't due. What's next? I buy a painting and hang it on my apartment wall, then neighbors come by to compliment me for being such a great artist. (?)

I'm not pointing fingers at anyone here. The comment that revealed the most about how the average Disney Fan thinks came from a different forum around the time The Avengers opened. A woman stated how she "never really knew much or cared about Marvel characters until Disney bought them."
Umm...lady, the Marvel characters & stories are not changing...they're just under different ownership...aw, forget it.

.

Actually I think next to no one believes that especially the "Disney Faithful"

Money for nothing.
