Marvel Land in DCA?

OK, like many of us I’ve been wondering how we get a coherent Marvel area if the rumored plan is to build it going North of Hollywoodland. The main sticking point is we’d have the Guardian’s Tower split off from the rest of the expansion by the Hyperion, which I think most of us agree isn’t going anywhere. So I’m looking at an overhead picture, and what if the plan is to bend Marvel Land around the back of the Hyperion, using the access road behind the Tower and the theater? It seems like there’d be room to do this.View attachment 155887

A couple of Hyperion observations:
  • It is an actual venue for live, theatrical performances. I know things don't change very often, but I don't see them restricting back of house access, which your hypothetical connector might do.
  • It's still a big box with a facade. As far as I'm concerned, they could update the facade to blend with whatever surroundings make sense, and still run any kind of show they wish.
In other words, I really don't know what their plans are, but I don't think the Hyperion should hinder what they ultimately decide on.

I'm a bit late to the party on this one... Why is everyone so certain Hyperion would stay?

Good point, but considering how successful it's been I don't see them taking it out. On the other hand I couldn't have imagined how expansive the SW thing was going to be.

If anything in the area near TOT is being considered for removal A Bug's Land should be at the top of the list.

Well...it's just a big theater building with a stage -- probably one of the easier things to rebuild elsewhere, eh? Out of everything in DCA, seems like it's probably the most expendable.

Considering they are overlaying Tower instead of building a unique attraction with it's own, separate building, I'd find it hard to believe that Disney would spend money relocating the theater instead of just leaving it where it is.

I guess... But one is the freaking Tower of Terror and the other is just a generic fill-in-the-blank theater. And I'm by no means saying there's any reason why they'd have to relocate the theater. I think most people would be more than happy to trade a stage show for a big E-ticket attraction and be ok with never getting a stage show back elsewhere.

I also don't think this Marvel land will thematically gel with what they are doing to ToT, for what it's worth.

I know they are both Marvel, but that doesn't mean they go together if the time periods are way off.

The exterior choice they made for ToT is my biggest problem with the project, not knowing the actual plans. I'm not sure what it's supposed to thematically go with. I would hope there is a plan...

True.

More than A Bugs Land, The Muppet Theater, or Monsters Inc?

I was just thinking about Bugs Land. My bets are that this one bites the dust. Ya, it's a good spot to cool down with the water thingy over there by the bathrooms, but that 'land' is always an afterthought to us, more of a pass-through area rather than a destination stop for us. Nothing is 'must do' back there, even now that we have a kid. We rode the chew chew train with our son, big whoop.

It's funny how Bugs Land's paths are always packed but the rides are always 10 minutes or less. It's like everyone in the place is confused on how to get out of there and over to the TOT.

Thematically, I always enjoy walking thru Bugs Land - especially at night. But yeah, it's totally shallow and void of any interesting attractions w/ maybe exception of the 3D movie which is rarely ever open anymore and was technically part of another land when the park first opened. It does have a churro cart and a set of restrooms in a tissue box, so it has that going for it... which is nice.

Also, I like that it has a semi-hidden shortcut path into Carsland.

Pretty much sums up my thoughts on Bugs land. Also, I agree on that semi hidden path. I really enjoy walking that path, especially at night. It's never crowded and I enjoy the music/ lights as you pass by Luigis

I have a feeling that a lot us would miss the ambiance of the land when it does go away. I'm always in favor of more green, more lush theming. So if that gets replaced with anything that remotely looks like the infamous warehouse/museum/power plant then I'll be disappointed. However, I suppose I'll get over it if we get a brand spankin new E ticket.

Or maybe they can keep most of the theming and build an Ant Man ride in the Expasnion pad with the bumpers cars area being the entrance to the show building? Not my first choice for an E ticket but hey...

My little kids would miss it, but as long as there's some comparable place for them to play in the new additions that would be okay.

I happen to really like a bug's land. The atmosphere is calming, the theming is on point, though there isn't much one can work with (the Kleenex bathrooms are neat), and the rides are enjoyable. That being said, I wouldn't be upset if it were to go.

I think it could be argued that The Hyperion stage shows are E tickets.

True... Not trying to take anything away from the great productions that go on inside the Hyperion building, they're all way above and beyond what should be expected inside of a theme park theater, that's for sure. But if we're talking about real estate that could be used for a super hero themed land, that space could probably be put to better use. Or then again, maybe we can get our own version of the Spider-Man musical in there...ha!

I agree that moving the Hyperion would be the best solution (assuming that Marvel Land actually does take over the north side of Hollywoodland), My guess is Disney wants to keep some of the old Hollywood feel as a nice transition when you make the turn from Buena Vista Street. While the theming of some individual buildings isn’t great, taken as a whole it looks pretty good when you make the turn from Carthay and see the Hyperion against that blue backdrop.

EDIT To be clear, I mean moving the Frozen show elsewhere; not moving the Hyperion itself.
