MARVEL at WDW?

Yes, I think it is time to revive this subject that we have discussed here in detail. I'm sure everyone is pretty familiar with the subject and where regular posters stand on the issue.

So I guess the rumor is circulating that Transformers may be coming to Orlando. The big question is will it go to IoA or the Studio park. It is a fact that the old HRC is being bulldozed so that may be for Transformers but I think it is also possible that paying royalties to the mouse does not sit well with Universal execs and they will transform MSHI to Transformer-land. At which point Disney could use all Marvel characters at WDW. This has been my prediction since Disney bought Marvel. I have taken a lot of criticism for my take on it but what else is new?

So, anyone care to go on the record as to whether you think Marvel will soon be at WDW?

PS- I am fully aware that there may be a thread in the Universal section but my aim is to focus this thread on the 'Marvel at WDW' rumor.

PSS- the source of the Transformer's rumor is Mr Spielberg. I would say that gives it some credibility. :)

Nice try, jt. Universal didn't just announce that they were completely reanimating Spider-Man just so they could turn around and close it for Transformers. Transformers will go somewhere in the Studios.

Universal hasn't even announced a Transformers ride for Orlando, aside from one comment from Mr. Spielberg. And considering the Spiderman ride at Universal Orlando is supposed to be getting a HD upgrade, replacing it right now wouldn't seem to make much sense.

Here is another article on the supposed "announcement":

They made a few changes but the project seems to have stalled. Perhaps they have changed their minds since the buy-out. Stranger things have happened. Essentially you have an entirely new management structure since the "reanimation" rumors surfaced. And if it was an official announcement perhaps you could provide a link.

You may very well be right, I just do not remember any news releases concerning Spiderman being reimagined. And as we know, these things change all the time. Or should I say "transform"?

I explained that in the OP but I guess it never hurts to repeat the point. Did you even read the OP? :brick:

They have updated Spiderman, and they may not be done. They have upgraded the film to HD, I believe (haven't seen it personally, but that's what several trip reports indicate), and in the process remastered it to fully digital. I do not recall if they really announced it, or people started noticing changes in the scene quality. Some numbers have been shot out there, but I do not know if they're confirmed (somewhere in the ballpark of $2+ million).

MSHI won't go unless they're not making money on the merchandise and brand recognition. Just as many guests at Disney think they're carrying Universal merch as Universal is carrying Disney merch. I will be very, very surprised if the Island gets rethemed. And in that vain, no, I don't expect Marvel to pop up in WDW anytime soon.

I would love to see Marvel in Disney Hollywood Studios and only Disney Hollywood Studios and no other parks on property. My concern is that TOD would try to stick them in places they do not belong.

Is the OP where you explained that the Spiderman ride was recently upgraded to HD? Or was it where you stated that no official announcement had been made by Universal as to a Transformers ride in Orlando? Or that there had been absolutely no movement by Universal or Disney to replace Marvel character in the former and import them into the latter?

Sorry, but I couldn't get through your b#ll#cks-laden cry of martyrdom, or that your supposed genius yet again goes unappreciated.....

As cool as it would be (for ride possibilities anyways) I don't see Disney incorporating Marvel into the Studios anytime soon. The average tourist already has a hard enough time deciphering Universal from HS. Putting any sort of emphasis on superheroes in the parks would blur those lines even more, imo.

One of the things that argues against Transformers at the Studio park is that this would put very similar ride systems in both parks. I know that Disney doen not like to do this with their big ticket rides and I think this is a sound strategy. Plus there is the royalty issue so I think this is very much in flux and it is possible Uni management has not made a decision. My gut instict has always been that Uni would not be willing to promote a Disney franchise for the long term.

I clearly stated that this was a rumor and you "transformed" my meaning into an "announcement". But your tactics have begun to be clearly apparent for all to see.

If you want to have a civil discussion I will be happy to participate. Otherwise, I will limit my discussions with the adults present.

Agreed. Although, I do think it is a bit broader than DHS if done right. Possible locations are Future World, Tomorrowland, DTD or even a boutique thrill ride park.

And like every supposed "rumor," you took it as some sort of validation of your undocumented beliefs. And then proceeded to decry anyone who may disagree with you from the onset. So save your sanctimonious blather on tactics....

Why would that be a question at all, big or small?

A big-budget Mega-E Ticket Transformers ride opens in 2012 at Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Studios Singapore. During a recent interview about Universal Orlando, Steven Spielberg threw out the concept of cloning the ride for Universal Orlando, probably saying a bit more than he was supposed to.

So why on earth would this mean that a clone of the Transformers E Ticket is going to Walt Disney World? :veryconfu

CORRECTION: Oh, I get it! By "Studio park" you mean Universal Studios Orlando, and not Disney's Hollywood Studios. Got it. It gets confusing with two theme parks named "Studios" within a few miles of each other.

Yes. I am not sure who made the biggest mistake, Universal for locating so close to WDW or Disney for reacting by building a "Studio" park.

I will always wonder what WDW would look like if not for Universal. Possibly a vastly different and better place. Not that I think it has turned out bad but it could have been over the top awesome with a different vision.

IMHO I think that this was orchestrated masterfully be Disney. Buy Marvel and Uni has to pay Disney money that indirectly was residule fron Potterland.
I mean there is a certian percentage of Uni's guest that are going there just to see HP, thus in Uni's success brings $ to Disney.

I think Disney will just let the thing play out. Why invest money into a ride system and wait to get a return when they can just collect royalties. When Uni runs cold it then could swoop in and make a huge splash. And Uni will be abrehensive at best investing anymore money into any new Marvel attractions knowing Disney will make a piece of the pie from it.Disney is making money without lifting a finger.

That all said, Disney and Uni have a symbiotic relationship. They need eachother . Although they compete for the same dollar at times. If one or the other would cease to exsist, it would hurt the others bottom line. So even though it is percieved that there is this rivalry....they wouldnt really want the other to disapear.

Disney to Uni...."we'll let you have Marvel.....for now"....snicker snicker
Uni.....Gee....Thanks

Very well said. It is fun and fascinating watching who will blink first. However Disney has put itself in the most favorable position.

Was building Hollywood Studios (MGM) a mistake? or letting the theme of the studios deteriorate a mistake? I prefer the later. I think Disney Studios is a great park. I just dont think they take full advantage of what it could be. I also think takeing away the actual studio was a mistake. Infact I think it would have been great if there was not only a animation studio there but also a motion picture studio. Maybe some guest could be choosen as extras in an actual movie. I think the original idea was perfect. Old Hollywood"

Its often discussed what is the difference between a Disney park and other "amusement" parks around the country. I think it is the performers at the Disney parks. In the studios this is even more important. Where performance is the theme of the park. Why is it said over and over again....Disney is about the experience....the magic....these performers are the ones who give it that extra appeal. I think if I was running the Studios park instead of investing in a new ride system I would invest in more performers....atmosphere. This is what brings the guest back over and over. There is so many places they can go and ride roller coasters and such. But there is only one place you can get Disney Magic.
