A few small things happening on July 17,

Just note that window dedications are usually held prior to park opening.
Just received word (I could have sworn this was announced earlier) that Marty Sklar will be honored on July 17th (Disneyland's 54th Anniversary) with a window on Main Street.

As always, the private press ceremony will occur before park opening. The honor is being given on the occasion of Sklar's retirement, which is also his 54th anniversary with company.

Later in the afternoon the rededication of Disneyland.
07.11.09 — Celebrate the 54th Anniversary of Disneyland!
On July 17 at 4:45 p.m., there will be a special 54th anniversary rededication moment on Main Street, U.S.A. at Disneyland, with the Disneyland Band, the Mayor of Main Street, Mickey and Minnie Mouse joining in on the festivities. The Dapper Dans will take part in a pre-show leading up to the rededication moment.

What a nice way to spend your last day on the job!

I hope Mr. Sklar is as lucky in retirement as he was in his career!

And then, because this is a WDW themed site, this question just came to me.... Do they do personalized windows on Main Street in the Magic Kingdom? In all my trips there, I've never thought to look to see if the names are real people. Are there maybe duplicate windows of the Disneyland originals in WDW for people like Sklar, Rolly Crump, Van France, Sherman Brothers, Harper Goff, John Hench, etc., etc.???

Do they do window dedication ceremonies in WDW at all? Do they have the special windows for Disney stars like Marty Sklar and the rest?

Yes, WDW has themed windows, but I don't think we have many (if any) duplicates from DL. From what I've noticed, in Florida, they normally are for people who contributed to the Florida Project and WDW.

Thank you. I did some searching and found that Magic Kingdom does have some personalized windows on Main Street. But they are primarily installed in the 1970's, honoring people involved in opening the property in '71 and/or getting it off the ground during the 1966-71 era.

I couldn't find anything recent for window dedications in Magic Kingdom. Apparently it's not something done anymore out there.

In the last year or two, Disneyland has held window dedications for Roger Broggie, Bob Gurr, Rolly Crump, Don Edgren, and Greg Emmer. During those dedications the attributes for the men all mentioned their work on "the Florida Project", in addition to their work for the Studios, the New York World's Fair, Tokyo, Paris, and Disneyland USA. Heck, Greg Emmer spent 35 years of his 40 year career working out in Florida, but his window dedication ceremony was in Disneyland.

I'm sure Marty's dedication ceremony on Friday will mention his work on the Florida Project. But it's probably fitting that his window is on Disneyland's Main Sreet. How odd that Magic Kingdom seems to have left this tradition fall by the wayside however. :(

Next time I visit WDW I'm going to spend a few minutes checking out the windows on Main Sreet to see who I can find.

I've always thought of Disneyland as the "Corporate Offices" of Disney. Maybe that's why the do the dedications there?

Some great info on the windows on both DL and MK's Main Streets, just note that both articles are really old and are more than likely dated.

What a great way to go out a window dedication, on DL's 54th Anniversary and many wonderful years with Disney! Big congrats to Marty! I wonder what building his window will be on? lately what ever building it goes on is tarped and painted prior to the event giving some kind of clue.

Marty Sklar's WDI Party

The day before Marty received his Main Street window, a special "retirement party" happened at WDI in Glendale where all the "Patio" was transformed in Martyland!

Disney and more have exclusive pictures of the event, here are some below and you can see all of them here:
