People from the New Orleans area leave town to get away from Mardi Gras and go to WDW. A lot of schools in the New Orleans area have a whole week off.

Universal has a HUGE parade. Universal Entertainment had the people who make the floats in New Orleans make their floats. They are very authentic even as far as being pulled by tractors. And concert series (It's a shame you are leaving the on 16th, that's the night The Steve Miller Band is playing at USF. They have lots of food (Po'Boys, Creole, Gumbo, Beignets, etc.) and drinks. It's a blast. Second only to Halloween Horror Nights as far as crazy fun goes.

I was there a few years ago and Disney did nothing. I am from Louisiana and me and half the state were in Disney. We went to AK on Mardi Gras day and wore some beads. While we were in line waiting to get into the park, others from Louisiana had Mardi Gras beads on as well and were giving them to people who had no beads. We gave our beads to the person bussing the tables at Flame Tree Barbecue and she was very appreciative.

If you want to have 1,000 freinds on your trip, wear LSU or New Orleans Saints gear.
It's a Louisiana exodus. So if you wear the gear you'll get plenty, Hive Fives, Go Tigers and Who Dat!
