Man Time...

Just thought I would throw this out there. First let me start be saying that the wife and I are huge Disney fans, DVC Members and overall WDW fanatics. We enjoy doing anything and everything together when we are in WDW. I enjoy spending time with the wife, so don't even go there! And while I'm at it, I am not bashing moms, wives, women in general or any other group!

That being said, on our last two trips, July and October, we had company whith us. July was with SIL and Family. After a full day of entertaining the nephews, BIL and I went out for "cocktails" at ESPN Club, what a great time we had. Just the guys! It was such a great time that we hit Bellevue room and Big River Grille the next two nights. (Maybe it was great because my wife and her sister-in-law were watching the nephews... my MIL's ears must have been ringing off the hook!)

In October we went with another couple, no children. After a day of running around, my friend and I went to Ragland Road. Yet another great evening of "Man Time", we were so happy with Ragland Road and the band that we wanted to take the spouses the next night. Here is the point of this post... when you experience good "Man Time" you will undoubtedly kill it trying to recreate it with the spouses! If you have the opportunity to hang out with the guys in WDW, without the girls, give it a shot. It's not like going out to the local pub with the guys, its different in a way I can't describe. Maybe its the choices of places to relax and hangout, unlike the usual places at home.

Funny side note, the couple we went with in October are very close friends and were with us Thanksgiving. As my friend and I were telling the story of the great time we had and what happened when we brought them back, he accidentally used the term "Buzz-Kill" when referring to his wife. We never laughed so hard... that term has found a place in history for us. It will become WDW-story folklore to us!

I can't agree with you more -- although in our family, we call it "Adult Time"...the evening away from all kids, teens, and whiny family members...male or female, it is great to have adult choices to go hang out in the evenings. I agree that there is something special about the Disney adult restaurants and clubs that is just fun and relaxing. My buddies and I will often go down to Ragland Road for the evening while the other stay back at the pool or go to dinner on their own...great adult time.

My DH gets to go fishing at WDW while we are there and he loves it. Now, he also gives me a chance to do something like a tour or something else that intrests me while he has the kids so it's "fair" so to speak. "Man time" is fine, but the wives deserve a break also (not trying to be mean...)

Works for everybody. One year, hubby and b-i-l played golf, sister & I got facials and the kids got to go on the Pirate adventure cruise. Fantastic morning all around!

Sadly I'm going with just the wife and kids so I'm not sure I'm going to be able to enjoy any 'man time' :(. Unless I can accost a man and persude him to accompany me to the pub for the night, but I think I'm stepping into dangerous territory there

My last trip was an all guy getaway. Left the wives and girlfriends at home and got some good geek-time in. The day before we left, I had a conversation with a coworker who had gone on an all-guy trip to Vegas recently. It went something like this:
Him: Oh yeah, get away with the boys, Vegas was sah-weet man! Where you going?
Me: Uh, Florida.
Him: Nice! Miami? Daytona?
Me: Umm, no... Orlando.....
Him: umm...
Me: Yeah, actually... just Disney World.
Him: /jawdrop wh-wha?

This of course led to a discussion of the more adult side of WDW which most people have no clue about. And I had to remind this dude again that I have absolutely no interest whatsoever in sports of any kind, and that includes gambling on them. We're the kind of guys who are much more comfortable at a sci-fi convention than a football game.

At any rate, from the international beer, to the Moraccan belly dancer, to Pleasure Island, we had a blast. There's plenty there for us lads to do that don't even include golf or fishing. My friends really got into the geeky history and trivia that I showed them, and I must say that not having our S.O.'s with us completely prevented any undue drama from occurring.
