Man rides Haunted Mansion 999 Times

I found this on Orlandosentinel.com tonight... Fitting that's it's Halloween!

He did it.

Earlier this afternoon, Gary Estrada his his mark, riding Walt Disney World's Haunted Mansion ride for the 999th time -- on Halloween.

"Whenever you reach your goal it's just a relief," Estrada told a Disney employee.

Estrada rode 999 times because that's how many "ghosts" are in the attraction.

He's the first person -- to Disney's knowledge, anyway -- to hit that goal in just 10 months. Estrada began his marathon riding in January.

I rode the old Imagination ride 14 times in a row when the cast members told my friend and i that the one day record was 37... I believe we then went to get burritos. A logical choice.

Wow. It took Ben nearly two years to hit 1000 rides on SWSA. Hitting that many in ten months is just mind-boggling (especially since SWSA takes less than 3 minutes for a full ride through, compared to HM's much longer cycle).

I love Tower of Terror, but I would not want to ride it 999 times. And certainly not in a 10 month period! It would kill the magic. There have been songs that I really like. Take "Limelight" by Rush, for example. Loved this song. Played it and played it and played it until one day I realized not only did I not love the song anymore, but I was really starting to hate it. Whatever spark I used to hear in the song no longer applied.

No matter how great I think ToT is, I fear a 999 ride marathon would destroy the wonder of the attraction.

That's about 250 hours of the Haunted Mansion - which is basically 3 full weeks of spending 12 hours a day in the MK riding HM over and over again.

Wish I had that much free time!

I seem to recall some guy named Flash rode all the rides, shopped every shop, and ate at all the eateires. He was part of the Lambert family.

And he brought the record home to America!

That is amazing to hear, I would love to be able to do that, but what about when he rides it for the 1000th time? does he get to become an official resident there hmmmm?

He paid full price for admission every day as he's not an annual passholder.
I think the company offered him a "retired" pin for his trouble.:lol::lol:

But, seriously, that is a lot of free time. Yup, I'm jealous.
I could ride Carousel of Progress that many times. I keep having a fear that they'll remove it.

how do we know that he is telling the truth. That is a lot of time spent on one ride. wow I dont think i could do it.

He is a CM. He's been working since April to do this, riding during breaks, time-off etc.. He also kept a log, and had an attraction CM sign it each time after riding.

Good thing he did his 999th mid-day though -- as the HM was not operational for much of MNNSHP last night.
