Maleficent Dragon Costume?

Okay... so my free Walt Disney World/Disneyland Resort DVD came in the mail the other day, and something really bugged me that I have never noticed before. When they advertise Fantasmic, they almost always include this one shot of somebody that's obviously in an elaborate costume of Maleficent in her Dragon form, breathing fire at the TV screen. It's very brief and only a few seconds long, if that.

I can't find a quick video of it, but if you skip to 9:20 you can see it:

My question is... why? You don't see somebody dressed in a dragon costume in the show spewing fire. If anything, seeing this giant Maleficent animatronic spewing fire into the lake would be ten times more awesome to look at in advertisements. But maybe I'm just thinking about it too much.

I just think it's weird... especially seeing the same little clip being used in ads today on resort DVDs.

Idk lol. I'm going to go with 'artistic license.' Which, incidentally, I have a similar gripe. Just saw the Aladdin show at DCA the other day. There's a set piece featuring a gigantic crescent moon. And THERE ARE FIBER OPTIC STARS within the darkened portion of the crescent moon! Uhhh... That's not how physics works. *look around* Hehehehe... But once again, artistic license... *smh*

I do beleive it was stock footage for DL's version as it did come first...I found a screen grab..And it does look more like a Costumed version..

I'm pretty sure it is a costume, you can see some of the wrinkles the costume's leaving in the arms, and the awkward movement of the "claws." I just find it kind of funny and weird that Disney actually put in the effort of making this costume and paying somebody to wear it for a clip that's not even five seconds long. LOL. :p

I think sometimes the marketing/PR departments go off and do their own thing...with very little regard for presenting anything as it actually is in a show or in the parks. Someone up thread mentioned "artistic license"...and this is a starting off point for what's happening.

The TV people put together ads to get people to want to come to the parks in the same way that Burger King or McDonalds TV people put together commercials that make people want to go to those restaurants to eat. Sandwiches never look in real life like they do in the TV commercials. And the restaurants in those commercials always look so clean and inviting and are filled with interesting likable people you'd want to know. In real life, going to a McDonalds or Burger King is not like that at all most of the time.

I bet someone at the ad agency just thought the Maleficent costume was cool when they saw it somewhere and wanted it in the commercial regardless of the fact it was not actually in the show.

This is by far my favorite video of the 'Disney Tour's. I miss it a lot.
But like
