Any updates on the Main St Firehouse building?

I was really sad to see this close and hope they still keep the firefighter theme.

It will retain the firehouse theming, but is rumored to become the headquarters for the new Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom game. There's been no visible progress so far...

The merchandise in the firehouse has gone downhill tremendously in the last couple of years. As a 15+ year firefighter, I always stopped in during my visits to MK. Lately, all that was in there was a crappy longsleeved shirt and dog stuff, like leashes and bowls.

I remember years ago being able to get prints and figurines showing various Disney characters as firefighters from old cartoons. I have a ciracell of Mickey coming out of a firehouse pulling a hoseline with Pluto and a ceramic figurine of Mickey turning on a hydrant with a huge wrench. And the shirts used to look like real fire department shirts that firefighters would wear while working a shift. Dark blue with the white logo over the heart. Mickey's face in the badge/logo saying "Magic Kingdom FD", "Station 71".

They stopped making them and its been going downhilll ever since. Sad to see it go, but I guess that's progress?

This seems to be the case with everything sold at Disney today cheap junk. The days of quality unique products are over today they buy it from China for a quater and sell it to us for $20:shrug:

It seems like Disney is going in the direction that Walt didn't want to go. Away from a nice place to take the whole family to s place that is all about taking all the money you brought with you and maybe some on the credit cards as well.:(

Of course he did. But the way he did it was by offering a truly unique experience where everything was fresh, clean, and well-maintained. It left guests feeling happy and that they got something for their money, spreading the word to friends, and wanting to return again.

Charging big bucks for junky merchandise just p*isses people off and reminds them they they are in a soulless corporate environment, not a nostalgic turn of the century American street, for example.

Hah, another shop..yesterday I was at Beach Club and browsed their shop and they have the same merch you can get at the parks! They even have the bear there.

I know i'm a little late on this conversation but does anybody know when the Fire Station switched from an exhibit to a gift shop? I never got to see the exhibit
