I’d be fine with a mix of both... the store is the egregious addition.
They should just open a new Toon Town theatre for those. Maybe in a pre-show for RR.
But yes, this store is just astronomically asinine.

Best case scenario, this is just a test-run/pop-up shop and will underperform and therefore get shut down.
Worst case... well, that's pretty self-explanatory.

Unless this is the only way the cinema stays in any form... if it fails what if they... oh gosh I can’t imagine.

And knowing Chapek, that's probably exactly what's on his mind...

"Let's see if the theatre is worth keeping... I know! I'll put a store
in there. If it does well, great. But if sales are bad, that proves the
theatre is a dud and needs to be replaced."

I'm gonna kinda play devil's advocate here. This isn't that big a deal. First, let me just say that I don't support it, but it will not in any way affect Disneyland for me. The cinema is a dud for me. It has a laughable awkward mannequin at the entrance, so it certainly has that going for it. But inside are just some smallish screens in a smallish dark room showing very old cartoons. It still is that, just with some merchandise I would never care about either. The few times I've gone in, there was nobody else in there and we left almost immediately.

I mean, yeah you're right. Now that my initial outrage has subsided a bit, I know that my visits to the theatre aren't going to be really "changed". I'll just have to look past the merch stands and cashier and watch the shows. Thankfully it looks like my favorite film, Mickey's Polo Team is unobstructed.

I just don't like what it insinuates in that any and every available space in the parks is suitable to fill with merch.

Sure... but these little areas are always what set Disneyland apart. Maybe I’d care less if it was at least unique merch... but it’s the same crap.

I will say that it was always so dark, I worried I'd lose a kid in there - or step on someone who was sitting on the floor cooling off. It could still be a charming attraction and without it being so dark. The light levels in these photos seem acceptable. It's the same place, but with some oddly added merch displays.

My fear is that this is the narrow tip of a wedge...

On the bright side, this should finally quell all those complaints from people who couldn’t find any Mickey or DL-branded merchandise on Main Street. They’re really tapping into an underserved market here.

Lmao!!

Homogenized, lack of quality, dull merchandise was defended by the shield brigade since the 90’s...

“Why not”?

Well...because it stinks...and you end up with Hollywood Mickey plushies in Adventureland and a magic band wall in the Italy store in Epcot.
