Main Hotwater Line Breaks at Contemp

Copper pipes that age in Florida can begin springing pinhole leaks. I have read publications calling it "an epidemic of copper plumbing failure". It is thought to be additives put in the water to help draw out impurities to meet the clean water act requirements, though lightning strikes can contribute to pinhole leaks, too. Anyhow, once those pipes start showing pinhole leaks, they will leak over and over and over again. I wonder if Disney is suffering from the same problems the pipes in my house are having... I am having my 22 year old home replumbed this week because of persistent leaks. At least I don't have to inconvenience any guests to do it! Major plumbing work must be awful at any of the resorts.

there is no rule

Act of nature or not, a hotel never HAS to comp.

I assure you there are quidelines at Disney. anyone who has taken the Hospitality Management course at Disney University or through the WDWCP would know what Disney's stand is on rectifying situations in the favor of the guest. Acts of nature is the one and only thing Disney will say (in the Disney way, of course) that they have no responsibility for.

that is no different than any other hospitality company.....but with any guest situation, there are exceptions.

Since this wasnt an act of nature Disney would have to comp. Does anyone remember when lightning hit a natural gas plant in central florida? ?1991 or 92? Disney was without natural gas for ?4 days?, which is their main source for water heat and cooking. Since this was an act of nature, Disney had no obligation to comp anything (although im sure they did in certain circumstances). They instead stepped up their "magic" and tried to make everyone's stay more comfy. They had cookouts with charcoal, sent characters to rooms, etc etc.
They still don't have to comp.
Edit: I see speck got here first.

A note:

Was there on Sunday and there was no sign of the damage. I was scouring the resort taking photos and I would have noticed if it was even remotely noticeable.

So, props to Contemporary for getting it cleaned up.

This happened once when I worked there, except it was a pipe on the 5th floor. The stairs that go from the 2nd floor convention area to the 4th floor Concourse were under water. It was cleaned up very quickly.

Disney has ways of making things that are standard in the industries they do business in seem like they're the only ones doing it. They're not. Most non-Disney hotels will do more than Disney does to rectify a situation with a guest.

Didn't they have to replace the pipes at the Boardwalk not too long ago?

It was back in January if I remember correctly. I was working there that day and remember the fun of having guests getting really ticked off at us. It had been on the Villas side, and affected at least three floors. The real kicker had been that about a week to two prior, a crew had been out making sure that sort of thing wouldn't happen with the pipes in that section. They sure didn't do a good job of it.

I'm suprised Disney hasn't tried to pull a Bombardier on USS yet. I guess the tecnicality is Disney baught the land back from them, rather than have the Contemporary run like the Swan\Dolphin which was planned.

Whatever it is, Disney need to replace the pipes - it's partialy their fault for not checking the pipes before they burst.

I am really scared of our trip to Disney in February. We are forking over lots of money to stay in the tower club thing at contemporary. But, don't know if we should stay at Floridian instead. We have a 6 and 4 year old, so they don
t care about decor. what do you suggest?

Why are you scared. Everything is now fixed at the Contemporary. Sure it could happen again but it could happen at the Floridian or any other hotel too.

Dont be scared, it can happen in your own house.

It's happened in mine - several times.

Once in the pipe that runs under the floor to one of the bathrooms, and another time in the wall of the other bathroom. It sucks, but such is the life of copper piping.
