Mailing from WDW?

Hi!

I'm still debating whether or not to have a carry on and a checked luggage, or just a carry on... but was wondering if it's possible to mail souveniors, posters/prints, etc. from WDW to my home instead of lugging them through airport/airplane/another airport ?

Does anyone know if its possible? If it is possible- where on property could I do this and is it expensive?

Thanks in advance!

I'll let someone else weigh on on whether it's possible to mail things directly from the stores (I think you can, as long as it's not a food item), but I know you can mail things to yourself from your resort's front desk. I had to do this last time after I stupidly bought a souvenir (jar of lingonberry preserves from Epcot) that exceeded the TSA 3-oz. limit for liquids in a carryon, and we were traveling carryon-only. As I recall, the shipping cost was little-or-nothing more than I'd have paid if I'd gone to the post office to mail it out. Although my resort's gift shop couldn't mail it for me (they said they can't mail food items), they assisted me with finding a box and bubble wrap to package it up, and pointed me to the front desk for the actual mailing.

I have bought things from the World of Disney store at Downtown Disney many times and had them shipped directly to my home, as they were to big or it's was too much stuff to carry on the plane. They did it no problem, just filled out the form when i bought the items. Of course i was charged for shipping, but it was fairly easy.

I most always have my purchases shipped home. It's a little expensive, but worth not having to find wriggle room in the suitcases for the flight home. One word of advice, tell the CM you want to use this option (or even if you're just having stuff delivered to your room) before they start to ring you up. There are forms to fill out that you can have done by the time they are ringing up your purchases that can cut down on your wait time, and avoid ticking off the next person waiting in line!

Another domestic mailing option is to get Flat Rate boxes from the post office. You can pre-purchase the postage and then pack the un-assembled box in your suitcase. Simply fill up the box, seal it, and ask the front desk to put it in with their outgoing mail pickup. Doesn't matter what the box weighs, as long as you can close the box it's a single price.

You can also use some of your dirty laundry as packing material. Less to lug home in your suitcase.

We have shipped some reasonably large packages from WDW in the past and is was fairly simple. We had our purchases sent back to the resort and the day before we checked out I went down to the gift shop in the resort with all of our items and they itemized everything, quoted me a price for packaging and shipping and bagged all the items. They gave me a receipt listing all of my items and that was it. My items went to a central packaging location somewhere for final packaging. About a week later it arrived at my house really well packaged and protected. I was quite impressed!

Some of the things we shipped were a monorail set, Contemporary monorail resort along with a few boxes of monorail track and some christmas decorations so basically they were huge items and they charged me $27.00 for packaging and shipping which I thought would have been a lot more. It would have cost me that much to take a bag with me and then I would be responsible if it broke. No thanks, I will definately use WDW shipping services again if I need to ship larger packages.

If you tell them at the register, while you're buying it, that you'd like to ship it home, they will do that. They wrap unbelievably well - best I've ever seen, and I have bought a LOT of stuff through the mail in my time, lol - Disney knows how to wrap! They'll also skip the tax, so it works out to about the same amount shipping it home as it would carrying it out of the store.

It sometimes takes longer to receive it by mail than it would from, say, amazon, but I've never not received anything or had it show up broken.

It's a really nice service they have there. :)

I ask them to wrap it well as it will be in my car for quite a while! I can't believe how well they pack things up.

If I remember everything correctly...I have shipped things back to my home two ways...

One is right at the store you purchased it in. Like a previous poster stated, inform the CM/Cashier...you fill out the form and the item is shipped right to your home. ***Added benefit - if it is a breakable item and the item breaks in transit, Disney will replace the item. If you pack it in your suitcase or carryon, you can sit and cry over it! ***

A second way is to ask at your resort to ship the items. I know a few years back I was at SSR and there was no way to get all I purchased back home. They helped me get things in a box, and I think boxed the materials, but I needed to show that I had purchased all of the items on Disney property. I had all my receipts except for one item - this goofy stuffed bird that chirped when you moved it. I swore I bought it on property...but had no receipt. They finally allowed me to ship the item....when I got home I remembered that I had, in fact, bought the bird at some store outside of Disney. Oooops.

Either way, I love shipping from Disney. It's a great pick me up when you are depressed from Disney detox and this little box of happiness shows up at your door.

I should have also added about how well Disney does pack stuff they are shipping. On my last trip, I had 6 bone china coffee cups from the UK pavilion shipped home, probably cost me $8-10. They got home about 3 days after I did with nary a scratch.

Eee! This! I'm hoping for a bunch of new mugs but am afraid of packing it myself and stuffing it into suitcase... PERFECT. They can mail it to me. Grand!

Thanks again everyone for your help! <3
