MagicBand + Annual Pass Discounts

I am not sure if this was mentioned in a MB/MM+ thread, but I was in the Emporium a few days ago and a CM on a register was getting hounded at by a guest with an AP who was mad that he had to have his AP and a photo ID to get the 10% discount. He claims that his family was told he did not need to bring them as they were "linked" to his band and therefore didn't need to bring it with him.

I had brought this up later on to a CM who I thought was involved with MM+ and she made me aware that APers are still REQUIRED to bring their Annual Pass and a Photo ID in order to receive the 10% discount. She explained that there are no plans to have the POS automatically recognize a guest with a MagicBand is an Annual Passholder.

My question to you... are you APers being told this at check in? They say that they are and the guests aren't paying attention.

I have had that trouble as well...isn't the point of the band that you don't have to bring your wallet and carry everything around? They should link your AP discounts automatically the cashier shouldn't have to do anything and neither should you the system should just say hey this guy has an AP automatic 10% in this store

I won't call the man a liar. It's possible that he misunderstood. It's also possible that he received the wrong information from the Disney staff. I've heard Disney staff tell people things that weren't true about these wristbands, so I know it happens. Who knows.

Anyone who has bought enough stuff with their AP knows that the staff is supposed to look at the physical AP and ask for ID. They don't always look at your ID, especially if they're really busy, but they do it enough that we all know they might ask for it. I never did the math, but I'd guess I'm asked for the ID about half the time.

I checked into one hotel since all this wristband stuff started and No, they didn't say anything about my pass. I didn't ask, though. :)

The problem I had was that I had my AP and my ID, but I didn't have my credit card with me. I didn't link it to my band either. I wanted to use my daughter's debit card since the item was for her, but the cm wouldn't allow me to do that. What if I had cash, wouldn't they have to take that? My daughter--18-- also has an AP, but hers was in the car-- DTD--. She had to go to the car to get her AP to pay. If I hadn't had my AP or ID, I could understand, but I had both.

I solved this problem by not using the magic band at all and just carrying my Pass and KTTW...hate the bands, will never use them, and see zero different between wearing something on my wrist (which I will never do, but carry it around in a cargo pants pocket) and pulling out a simple card.

I like the MB but to a certain degree it is kind of silly. The only real added value of having it is for FP+ reservations

when we bought our AP passes in Sept we were told very specifically that we would still need to show the AP and ID with our magic bands. and on both sept and jan trips I was asked every time for both

1. You can use FP+ with the RFID enabled KTTW card. You don't need a MB for that, really.
2. I did find it more convenient to use the MB than have a card, but YMMv. If someone isn't comfortable with wearing the band, I can see how it would have no added value -- or even be more inconvenient -- compared to the card.
3. I will say that my young children loved using the MB just to make Mickey light up. It's a completely minor thing, but I can say that it had a positive impact on our trip.

but...

4. I do think the MB has one significant benefit and that is at the water parks where one might not have pockets (esp women) and wearing someone on your wrist that can be used for everything is good.

I also rather liked using the MB for Photopass, but I guess they could use an RFID KTTW for that well, no?
