Magical Express ?

Hopefully someone here can help us

We had thought our travel agent booked us on the Magical Express. As we are flying from canada we have no use for the baggage tags just the ride to our resort. Unfortunately upon calling to confirm our reservations we discovered that there is nothing booked.
And we leave on tuesday night....:sohappy:

Is it possible to arrange a ride at the counter in the airport?

No! You must be booked on DME in advance of arrival. But you can call with your resort reservation # and book now.

Just call Disney and make arrangements now.

You just need your reservation number and flight numbers and times. Then call Disney (1-407-WDISNEY) and have them add DME to your reservation. It's that easy. You won't have a voucher or booklet, which means you'll need to check in when you get to the airport, but it's still easier to just call and add it now.

Not sure why your agent didn't do this for you. Not very professional of them.

EDIT: What Monty said: Call Disney's Magical Express directly at 866-599-0951

And as a bit of explanation, Disney's contract with the airport is the reason you can't just arrive in Orlando and book DME transportation, despite having a hotel reservation.

Part of the concessions they made to ease the complaints from other transportation vendors about losing business is that they'll *only* transport people who have made DME reservations *before* arriving at MCO. If you arrive without a DME reservation, they cannot accommodate you.

Thanks for the help, the Mrs is in the process of calling right now. I don't think it was anything unprofessional with out travel agent, just a honest mistake.

You should have no problem. They just need to have you in the books before you get there.

Hopefully your agent handled the rest of your vacation smoothly. Accidents happen. I presume you just didn't know your flight info when you booked your vacation, so they couldn't set up your DME right away.

Anyway, here's a virtual wave to you since we'll be in the "World" together this week

Welcome!!!

Disney is not mailing DME materials overseas, it seems.

HOWEVER, you can still have DME handle your luggage! Since Day One, they've had a procedure for handling luggage that does not have the special DME luggage tags.

Make sure you make a DME reservation. After you land at MCO, bypass baggage claim and go straight to the Disney Welcome Center (also known as the DME counter). They'll ask if you put DME tags on your bags, and you'll tell them NO. They'll ask to see you baggage claim tickets (the ones you got in Newark when you checked your bags for your Continental flight). They'll also get a physical description of your bags. You'll be shown to your DME bus, and DME will dispatch a cast member to physically go to baggage claim for you, and that person will get your bags from the carousel and take them back behind-the-scenes at the airport, where he/she will print out a DME luggage tag for each one, and will send them on their way with the rest of the DME luggage to Disney's luggage sorting facility on the grounds of the airport, and so on.

NO PROBLEM!

Hey everyone. While we are on the DME topic, I just wanted to add something that is slightly unrelated.

Please be aware that the DME uses all sorts of busses, not just DME ones. On our last trip, both to the hotel and later on back the airport, we rode in a Disney Cruise Line Bus. Both times the driver was helpful in letting us know the bus was being used for DME purposes.

However, back in 2008, when leaving to go back the airport, a yellow Mears bus pulled up at the bus stop. The driver never got out of the bus, just looked at us sitting there with our luggage, and then drove away. My husband and I had no clue it was the DME bus. We had to wait for the next one and we arrived at the airport a little too close for comfort.

So while you are waiting for the DME bus, no matter what kind of bus pulls up, always ask the driver if they are the DME. Lesson learned for us!

As an aside if you are arriving on Air Canada, you will be on the A side. Take the tramway to the central terminal and follow the signs to the B side. The whole thing was smooth as butter.

Another helpful tip....

If you're staying at Kidani, you need to tell the gatekeeper "Kidani" and not just "Animal Kingdom Lodge". This is when going to your resort from the airport.

They consider Kidani and AKL as two separate resorts (since they have separate check-ins, unlike BLT which just has one). We almost got on the AKL bus until the lady checking tickets at the bus saw KIDANI and told us that we'd be on another bus that would actually stop at Kidani.

Whew.

Southwest was a participating airline when I went in July 2009.
I didnt read the whole thread but one thing i recommend is that you make sure you request enough yellow tags for all your luggage. I think they default and send you one per person and southwest lets you take 2 pieces of luggage. It was not a problem for me since i put my smaller luggage inside my larger one but you can call and request more yellow tags.
Have fun.

"Participating Airline" has nothing to do with arriving at Orlando International Airport. Passengers on every airline that flies into MCO, from the biggest to the smallest, can utilize luggage delivery (where you put the yellow tags on your bags and bypass baggage claim). The luggage delivery service is an aspect of the luggage handlers at MCO, not the airlines.

Where "Participating Airline" comes into play is when you want to use Resort Airline Check-in at your hotel before heading to the airport. At the moment Southwest is in tests to join the list of participating airlines, but only at Pop Century (and I've recently read someone who'd posted that it's expanded to all Values now). When they finally roll Southwest out to the other hotels, all major airlines will be participating in Resort Airline Check-in.

Maybe some of the people working just don't want to ask folks if they have those things and/or get lazy...much easier to keep waving people towards line I suppose....thank goodness for this awesome board and it's wealth of information....now if I could only shrink myself to fairy mode and whiz thru even faster.....:)
