Magic Masters to close at Downtown Disney West Side - replaced by 'Something Silver'

I liked magic masters too. I bought stuff from there. I just don't understand what Disney is doing with dtd??

Well, there is nothing to say that Disney had anything to do with this. My guess is that this was probably Magic Masters decision. From my experiences, a lot of people went to the store but few people seemed to buy. You can only sustain a business so long under those circumstances.

Especially with the giant pile of rent Disney charges.

Very sad. :(
We would always see the same magician every time we visited the store. He always was very entertaining. But I'd be a hippocrite to complain, because even though we loved the store, we never shelled out any $$$ for the tricks to buy.

I may actually check this store out next week when I go. I've always just walked by. How much does the tricks costs?
From what I remember, prices seemed pretty hefty for magic tricks. Of course, if magic is really your thing..then it might be worth it. We always enjoyed just walking by or going in to see the magicians perform. They always were very entertaining.

This seems to have been the problem. Most people fell into this category since as soon as they stopped performing the store emptied out.

Prices weren't terrible for magic tricks, those things can be surprisingly expensive.

Very sad to hear this!!! Yeah, I noticed a lot of people who would watch the tricks and then just leave. When I like a store, or think a place is neat, I try to support them if I can for this very reason, to keep them in business. I have a few magic tricks from Magic Masters here, and they are a lot of fun. Gonna miss stopping here in DTD, it was one of the main reasons for me to visit that area!

The latest DTD strategy is "close everything Mansion Butler likes, and replace it with something he will never set foot in." Clearly. Except for Splitsville.

I know this for a fact because I snuck in to Team Disney and walked in to an Imagineer's office and saw it on a memo on his desk. And something about Beastly Kingdomme.

Steve, I think theres a typo in the article:
The store has been at the West Side since July 2011
And yeah, not stoked, yeah it was just a magic store that probably barely ever sold anything, but... still, it was unique. A jewelry store? You can already buy jewelry throughout DTD anyway.

With so many unique stores being converted into mall stores, and the Hyperion Wharf project apparently going nowhere, the only thing DTD has going for it in the near future is Splitsville IMO.

Okay, now I am completely convinced that Anaheim's Downtown Disney management team is in charge of recruiting new stores for Orlando too. This is the third store announcement for WDW's Downtown Disney just this summer where an existing store from Disneyland's Downtown Disney makes the leap out to Florida.

Something Silver - Downtown Disney, Disneyland Resort

And the Something Silver news fuels this suspicion the most because Something Sliver is exclusively a West Coast store, with only eight (8) locations in upscale malls in Seattle, Portland, Orange County and San Diego. And now also... 3,000 miles away in Florida too.

Little Miss Matched, Ridemakerz, Apricot Lane, BLINK by Wet Seal, and now Something Silver. All stores that existed first in Anaheim, and then were cloned for Lake Buena Vista in 2010 and 2011. I think TDO threw in the towel on Downtown Disney property management and is just letting Anaheim run things for a while. That's weird.

A little sad about this, I did enjoy seeing the magic tricks out on the street but must admit I only ever bought something from there once about 6 years ago!

Yeah, it opened in 1997, and I'll be sad to see it go as well

It really isn't my thing, hence why I've never been in the shop lol. But if it's going away then now is the best time to see what it's all about. Maybe some of the 'tricks' would be worth buying  idk, I'll see next week.

I like this change. I wasn't ever going to buy anything from the magic store and I didn't really ever stop to watch a magic trick.

I will peruse some silver jewelery, specifically if it is WDW themed. My SO will be excited.

Amazed that the rent on that tiny sliver of a store would have been that much. I can't see many things fitting in that footprint. But I'm not terribly surprised its closing. Disappointed yes, but not surprised. I love magic, but never saw anything that would have been an impulse buy. It's hard to display tricks without risking giving away the secrets, but heck, a rack or two of cheaper less tricky tricks would have dragged the kids in. Unless they felt that would have lowered their image.

To those who seem to think that we are getting all the stuff from Anaheim indicates a big change in strategy I have to disagree. It is entirely possible this was always intended when those vendors signed on. None of the changes we have seen contradicts anything announced for HW. Interesting spin by some of you but it appears the plan continues to unfold in a very deliberate and methodical way. The tortoise not the hare. The project managers must get a kick out of reading all the 'sky is falling' mania some folks around here engage in.

And I leave you with my usual note of optimism to counter the naysayers....

if the magic shop is closing at DTD perhaps that indicates they intend to open one somewhere else. Or should I say "reopen".

If there was a strategy to begin with, I'd be impressed.....

And rampant speculation is just that.
