Magic Kingdom Mornings

I am planning a trip in December and was just wondering if anyone could give me a play by play of the MK opening ceremony. I know the characters come out on the train, but how early does it start? and what happens afterwards? I've also seen things about the Mainstreet Trolley having performers on it and coming down the street.....does that happen at the same time? Also...any info about other "surprises" like this would be great to know about (what's THe Awakening at AK like?)
 ! Thanks!

I think on Mornings when they do the Extra Magic Hour the characters don't come out on the train since the park is open for WDW Resort guests. Although on my trip last December I went when they were doing the Extra Magic Hour, at 9:00 AM after I got of Tomorrowland Speedway I heard the morning announcement welcoming everyone to the Magic Kingdom. I can't say if the characters came out on the train, but this is the best information I can give you. Hopefully someone else can help you out.

We were at MK April 1 for opening.....park opened at 9 and we were at the gate by 8:30.

A little before 9 some music started and a family came out to "open" the park. They waved, the little kids looked shy, from the train platform. I was waiting for characters to arrive and none did....we were a bit dissapointed......

Then some confetti stuff shot out, and the family threw some, and the rope dropped, that was it........

I had heard that the normal opening ceremony is usually a little more exciting......but were were there to get to Fantasyland right away......just watch out for the people running towards rides!

Uh, not much of a "play-by-play" as requested, huh?! j/k!

Thanks, I was wondering exactly what happens. Someone (ahem, my GF, ahem) can't seem to get up and get ready in time to make to to these things, despite my pleading and begging! I give here a lot of credit, she went from 0-Disney in 2.0seconds, but she's not a master of the morning yet!
Maybe next time...

There is some song and dance from the residents of Main Street. The train normally arrives during the ceremony with the characters and the family. They countdown to the opening, there is confetti, and the rope drops. That's it. It's cute though. I always try to catch it.

The trolley show is separate from the opening ceremony, but happens a few times in the first couple hours after the park opens.

If you are interested in what the opening morning ceremony looks like, go here for a great video.

It's got everything from the first words "good morning" to the sprinkle of magic pixie dust to open the park.

Enjoy!

(Go to Mousetimes.com>multimedia>magic kingdom>entertainment. I felt it wasn't right to post a link to a video that wasn't my own. The website is very accessible and has some great stuff, so check it out!)

Is this a new thing? I've been going to WDW since I was 4 (32 now) and I don't ever remember something like this. Sounds fun.

No, they've been doing this for a quite a while now. I recall seeing the opening ceremony back in 1995-97. Where the music starts playing, the characters ride in on a car and it stops in front of the train station and they get out and go up to the platform and there is a bit of a show and after the show they come back down and go to the four corners of the town square to meet n greet with guests.
