My Disney vacation was not ruined at all by the hurricane, but I have been there a whole bunch of times, so I could see how it would ruin others...

The average person does not come here more than once every few years, if even that often....

If I had 5-7 days every few years to visit WDW, and for 2-3 I was stuck in my hotel room, I would not be too happy.

I'd say 3 days in your hotel room is pushing it, Hurricane Charley blew by at night, was gone the next morning.

My friend, said the one he went through, in September, was gone in a day.

Frances, labor day weekend, was 3 days of the parks and roads being closed

The Noodle Station might be closed for a long time. I know they are currently training one of the managers to work at Cinderella's and cross training at Liberty Tree Tavern as well.

I know it may sound stupid but I may wait a week in advance to book my trip. atleast that way I can be pretty sure wether or not there will be one. I plan on doing the Play Stay and Dine for free package. I don't think that they will run out of rooms this time of year. Do you guys think it will still be avalible up intill the deadline?

We go every year in September. We have been there during tropical storms, hurricans, and even 9/11. Twice the parks have closed on us! But we still head back in September. We enjoy the fact that there are smaller crowds and it is value season. We will keep going back in September.

We are going again this year during September but not taking advantage of the free dining package. The passholder rates and DDE card work better for us. We go to very few counter service meals but do like the sit down meals. Most of the sit down meals we enjoy count as 2. We still would have need to fork money over for meals.

Even if you wait to within a week you will be no more certain there will not be a hurricane than you are now. They pop up out of nowhere. There is no way to forecast if one will form, they can only forecast where it might go. Therefore if you want to go, make the reservation now and take your chances. If you’re that concerned postpone your trip to October.

Actually if you wanted to be really safe, you'd have to wait until December 1st. The Florida Hurricane season technically runs from June 1st - November 30th every year. (Though, granted, November hurricanes are extremely rare.)

But I say, don't stress it. Go anyway.

I know that, I am from Florida also. However by mid october the season generaly calms down, and chances for a stike are less. Not that it doesn't happen (Ivan). However I just meant that if your that worried about a hurricane you really should avoid August and September.

BOO. I was really looking forward to BOTH of those places being open during our trip (especially since I can only take so much of WDW's chicken-fingers-and-pizza-and-burgers counter service.) Looks like we'll be eating at a couple more sit-down places...*waves goodbye to cash she thought she might save* :p

Well getting away from the hurricanes, the job market here in Orlando is strong for those seeking jobs and weak for those who need people to fill jobs. Both Universal and Disney are struggling to find people. My philosophy is I would rahter have an empty hand than a hand full of crap :).

Erm, no. On Thursday the 12th, Charley was mostly over Cuba. It made landfall on the afternoon of the 13th, and exited the east coast in the early morning hours of the 14th.

Thank you captain

I'm subscribing to the theory that there might be a shortage of CMs, the fact that August is a slower tourism month, and the fact that not only grade schools go back but college starts in the mid-end of Aug. If you don't have enough employees it makes it harder to keep places open during the slower times.

Wouldn't these be some of the same reasons the parks shorten their operating hours during off-season?

Could be.....but I think hours are based more upon attendance...

The park does not need to be open until midnight if there are not going to be any lines.......

If a guest can experience every attraction in the park in only 8 hours due to the lack of lines, why would the park be open 4 or 5 more hours, as it only adds to the costs.

Some of the more vocal people around here complain that "back in the day" (the 70's) the park would be open until midnight every day in the summer, and that the hours, in general were much longer.

One thing that they faily to mention, or notice, is that the attractions used tickets back then.....if a guest wanted to ride Space Mountain 20 times, that guest had to pay to ride 20 times......the park would make more money by being open later. This is no longer the case.....guest will only buy so much food and merchandise......and this amount will only increase very slightly if the park is open later.

It's not a shortage of CMs. Plaza (now Noodles) and El Pirata do this every year. El Pirata is staffed by the same people who staff Pecos. The CMs whose 'home base' is Noodles will usually go to Casey's or Cosmics. This is the time of year where people start complaining about the number of hours they're recieving. If Disney wanted to keep the QSRs open, they'd just increase hours.

The other thing, is if there's a shortage of CMs in a certain area, the shifts would be posted on the Extra Hours Hotline. Example: If El Pirata needed a counter person, but couldn't find anyone, the shift would appear on the EHH. Anyone who's been trained in QSR:Counter can pick up that shift--even if they're working at Kali River Rapids now. Okay, I'm gonna slip off my soapbox now. :D
