Good evening
We tried to make a dining reservation f or be our guest but have been Informed that it will be dosed for refurbishment in August so I am looking for suggestions of where else to go in M K. for dinner on D.D.P.
the party is 4 adults and 4 teens

Liberty Tree Tavern is excellent. Crystal Palace is a decent buffet with Pooh characters. Ive never had good meals at Tonys but its a place to dine. Pecos Bills & Columbia House has decent offerings for QS. Besides BOG we target Liberty Tree.

My first choice would be to go to one of the MK-area resorts for dinner (e.g., 'Ohana at the Polynesian or Hoop-Dee-Doo at FWC, although the latter is 2 credits on the DDP, but gratuity is included). If eating in the park, Liberty Tree Tavern and Skipper Canteen both provide good value for a TS credit -- just take a look at the menus (Thanksgiving favorites served family-style and all-you-care-to-enjoy, vs. marginally exotic international fare, a la carte) and see what you think your party would prefer. I want to recommend Crystal Palace (buffet with Pooh characters) for the quality of the food, but I hesitate to do so because while the food is unexpectedly good, the service and character rotation are abysmally slow. (My family's last meal at Crystal Palace took over three hours, from the time we arrived at the check-in desk to the time we finally left after waiting to be seated, eating dinner, and meeting the last of the characters -- and even then, it was only because we tracked them down in another dining room to avoid waiting yet another 30 minutes for them to get to our table.)

I wouldn't recommend Tony's, unless "Italian-style frozen T.V. dinners" are among your favorite foods. :)

If you don't mind leaving to one of the MK area resorts, the Grand Floridian has a gem in the Grand Floridian Cafe. Don't let the name food you, it is not a cafe but a very nice restaurant.

In the park I love the Liberty Tree Tavern.

I agree about Grand Floridian Cafe. We've had several excellent dinners there. And breakfasts.

I think the prior posting have some really good suggestions.

For us, we have only dinner table service at BOG but since the opening of Skipper Canteen, we would be interested in trying this. I have some a lot of really good reviews about Liberty Tree Tavern and a lot of bad reviews about Tony's Town Square.

But with all that being said and if it was my family, we would do the same as @Weather_Lady and go outside the park. We really love Artist Point (WL) for dinner (but it is 2 DPP credits) and Whispering Canyon (WL) and have done 'Ohana (Poly), Kona Cafe (Poly), The Wave (CR), and Trail's End (FW). If you family like dinner shows, then I would highly recommend Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue but there is also Disney's Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show (both taking 2 DDP credits). We were not a big of California Grill (CR) as it was very noisy for when we expect.

WHile it wasn't life changing food or anything, we had a great meal at Tony's last September. Service was good. There was no wait for our table. We had one child under 3 not on the dining plan but at this location they really took care of him giving him lots of "free" extras. THe tiramisu was not very good here, tasted very purchased premade frozen type, but the other desserts were pretty good.

I do agree that the best choices are to leave and go to a nearby resort, however. It takes minimal time in travel and opens a lot of options. Even monorailing over to Epcot is pretty easy and has a bunch of opportunities if you have part hopper

Staying in the Magic Kingdom, we've had great meals at Skipper Canteen (and we love the service here too!) and if the slightly more adventurous menu appeals to you, I would suggest it as a great and unique alternative within the park! If you are willing to venture out of the park, Ohana at the Polynesian Resort (boat or monorail ride away) is really fantastic and a good use of a DDP credit.

If you are staying in MK.....I would suggest Skipper Canteens or Liberty Tree. We have enjoyed both.

If you want to leave the park and stay in the general monorail resort area, you have some great ones to choose from
  • 'Ohana
  • Kona Cafe
  • Grand Floridian Cafe
  • the Wave
Just to name a few

I will second (or third or fourth, whatever we are up to) leaving the park

BOG - has gone downhill (and is now closed anyway, so there you go)
Skippers Canteen - I like it, but if you have some picky eaters, it may not be for them
Liberty Tree - I need to be in the mood for this one, and I rarely am after a day in MK (unless its chilly out)
Crystal Palace - It's a WDW buffet. Nothing spectacular, unless you have a desire to see Pooh and friends.

There are plenty of places a short monorail or boat ride away that are much better (and have much better availability). You have 5 resorts within a quick trip from the MK gate, take a look at them.

In the park I would go with Liberty Tree Tavern, Plaza Restaurant or Skippers Canteen.

If you are ok with leaving the park for lunch or dinner may I suggest Grand Floridian Cafe (GFR), Kona Cafe (Poly), Trail's End (FW) or The Wave (CR).

I have eaten at all of the TS restaurants in MK and you know what, I liked them all! Skipper Canteen was delicious but maybe not so good for picky eaters. Crystal Palace - can't really go wrong with a buffet! The Plaza is very good but mostly just sandwiches - feels more like a lunch place to me. Liberty Tree Tavern is great for lunch, can be hit or miss for dinner. Not a big fan of Be Our Guest, very overrated in my opinion. Tony's - I will never understand all of the hate this place gets, it's definitely one of my favorites. We ate there on 1/31 and everything was very fresh and delicious. I had the combination plate - chicken parm, fettucine alfredo, and baked rigatoni. It was all so good. My boyfriend had a pizza and loved it. My vegetarian daughter had a caesar salad and the caprese and also enjoyed it.

Just made lunch res for BOG in August. So I am not sure why it would be under refurb for dinner.

I wouldn't think there would be much refurb to the physical restaurant, but I'll bet there will be a refurb to the menu and a MAJOR refurb to the price. There would probably be some adjustments to the training for the CMs too.

All personal opinion - I'm not necessarily right, no one else is necessarily wrong.

Get out. Hit the Resort Hotels. We love the MK as a park. Their food is one level above Corn Dogs :).
1) Contemporary - CA Grill
2) Floridian - Citrico's, Narcoossee's.
3) WL - Artist Point.

All a boat, or Monorail Ride away :).

Again - All personal opinion - I'm not necessarily right, no one else is necessarily wrong.

I haven’t eaten there yet, but I was able to take a walk around the inside of the Skipper Canteen (big thank you to that hostess, she was a sweetie!). The ambiance was great, I think it’s a really handsome place! When I’m in Disney, the design plays almost as big a role as the food, at least for me.
