I believe that they have to wait until after they tape the Christmas parade.
They don't HAVE to. They CHOOSE to. Until about 5 years ago, they put the tree up for the entire holiday season (this sometimes involved moving the tree to one place or another, but it was in the park from early November on).
Nothing like paying $60/person for a Christmas party without a tree!
Up until 2008 (I believe--maybe '07), the tree started in the Rose Garden area and was moved to Town Square after the parade filming.
So just to make sure I am clear. There are absolutely no Christmas Trees in the MK until after the Christmas Parade taping?

It doesn't matter - the MK tree is ugly with ornamnets that are more outdated than the daytime parade the park runs. For a real Disney Park tree let me present the one for DL Park:

Tree will come down to various preferences. If at night you want a huge ball of lights then sure, DL takes the cake, but if you prefer otherwise then it is WDW all the way.
Seeing branches while lit > Seeing predominantly lights.
