I also suspect they will be VERY crowded that day and the whole week after. This year they are even open extended hours this whole week of Thanksgiving ~ I don't recall them doing this the whole week last year.

MK hours this week are 8am-12am, as will be the case Christmas/New Years week!

It also depends on what kind of ticket you have and whether you are a WDW resort guest as to how quickly you'll be turned away. If you have an AP and are staying on site you could probably afford to show up shortly after opening. If you are coming off-site with a car then I'd definitely be there before opening if you want to make sure that you'll get in. You'll be one of the first groups of guests they turn away in the capacity closing stages.

Plus, if you are actually planning on getting a single thing done in the park that day you have to get there that early anyway.

we will be staying at the Coronado Springs, not a passholder

Closing park admission to Disney Resort guests is one of the last closure levels they would implement ~ and then it is usually temporary for an hour or two. They will close the parking lot first, then close admission to (off-site) day guests, then finally for resort guests.

You will be fine getting there in the first hour or two of opening. Rarely do they begin the additional phases of closure before noon. As others have said though, it will be crowded. You just have to account for the things associated with large crowds and go with the flow (long lines everyhwere, very late/sold out Fastpass, full buses, people everywhere, etc.). You'll enjoy it much more that way.

One warning: If you are a "theme park commando" and are heck bent on doing/seeing everything that park offers, you will be disappointed during these very crowded times.

Thank you so much for the advice, very helpful.

I still can not grasp why people want to go to the Magic Kingdom on Christmas day knowing that it will fill to capacity. What is the draw that I'm missing? Hey kids, want to spend a lot of money to stand around. I heard they have a new ride called "The line". Maybe I'll go one year and see what the hype is about. We used to go early December and I couldn't believe they stopped doing the daytime Christmas parade and only had it for the Very Merry nightime party. Either way, enjoy.

EPCOT might be a better choice for Christmas Day.
It's like being in 'Christmas around the world' and is not as crowded as the MK.

The MK is nice for Christmas Eve.

Tks.

I don't understand it either. I plan on avoiding the parks on Christmas day. I can't deal with the crowds. I get way too frustrated with people when its crowded like that.

We have always found MK to be pretty empty on Christmas MORNING. Around 11 am, the crowds really start to roll in, and it becomes uncomfortably crowded really fast. This is when we head out of this park. By late evening, the park is quiet again.
