People: Disney should treat their cast better

Also people: How dare it inconvenience me

Personally, though I have never worked specifically at WDW, I usually want to spend my free time in ANY other location than where I work.

A member of my family once spent a summer - more or less - making funnel cakes. Over 40 years later, they STILL say they have NO desire to ever eat a funnel cake, or even smell a funnel cake.

So, for me, I suspect I'd generally much prefer a small $$ bonus over 'free' time at my place of employment.

That reminds me...some of my friends once waited tables all in the same restaurant. They got food at 50% off, but none would eat it. The manager once chewed them out, because they weren't making their 'staff-food quota.' It was a bit bizarre.

Except that they knew...well...all the ugly details.

This isn’t just “free time in the park”, it’s an elaborate, catered, production with a fireworks show and live entertainment and best part NO GUESTS. This is an event that many look forward to and requires much more effort than a bonus appearing on your paycheck. I gave a lot the last decade, let me enjoy my party.

Who is less intelligent? A business that closes its business early or the customers that decide that is the only date/time they can possibly visit that particular business?

I see that, too. Bad form. They should not do that to guests this last-minute.

Perhaps 4/6 at DHS is a park buy-out, then?

Yeah, doing it on short notice is the only problem. That can actually have a significant effect on guests, mainly due to cancelled dining reservations that will be difficult to replace.

Other than that, it's a good thing.

Huh?

A party in MK might not be the 1st choice of every employee, and that's okay. (I'll do me, thanks.)

I made no comment on what you personally would enjoy. I only quoted you to point out that a party isn't the only option if WDW wishes to express employee appreciation.

For that matter, I had no plans to be at WDW on the 25th; so it did not personally impact me one way or the other.

I'm sorry your party was postponed.

As others have pointed out, Disney is damned no matter what they do. If they celebrate milestone anniversaries with events, guests complain that the park is closing early and some staff will complain that they'd rather have $100 gift card.

If they started to give everyone a gift card for milestone anniversaries then guests would complain that disney ceo's are cheaper than ever and some staff would complain that they'd like the day in the park instead.

I say do both and thank your employees who have actually been there for 5, 10, or 15+ years dealing with us jerks. Just give them disney gift cards so they have to use it on-prem!

I’m sorry I misunderstood, thank you for clarifying :)

Or was it rescheduled to MK on 2/8 (which would be 2 weeks later vs. 2 months)? I'm at the parks that week (though the 8th is the day we get in late, so no parks) and see it's closing at 4:30 on that day too. Not sure if it always was since I didn't pay that much attention before now.

The Feb 8 was scheduled a while back, and is for the 2021 service celebrations. The delayed Jan 25 is for the 2020 service celebration. Not sure what the DHS is.

Amen. A company I worked for back in 2000 showed its appreciation to their employees by renting a major museum for the evening and filling it with snack stations, strolling musicians, bartenders and heavy hors d'ourves -- think roast tenderloin, smoked turkeys and premium hams.

All the money in the world won’t give you A-mode Kylo Ren.
They could replace that thing with the Wicked Witch that turns around in Sleeping Beauty dark ride in DLR. At least it's more reliable. Is the west coast having this much trouble? If not, maybe their maintenance engineers can come over for a few days and figure out why WDW's is continually borked.

It doesn't necessarily have to be the Kylo AA that is broken, the falling ceiling debris could also be broken, preventing the AA from being used. The air duct that also falls hasn't been working at all since like early 2021, but this doesn't affect the execution of A-mode.

I once worked part-time for a very small family company. The rest of the employees were all long-standing full-timers and/or family. I was hired for a project I'd finished in October; so they'd already kept me longer than planned. Come late December, during an economic downturn, I was to be laid off. Bad timing, but my last day was the tiny holiday party: just the employees did a small white elephant gift exchange ($10). I didn't have much money, but managed to scrape together my $10 gift.

At the gift exchange, I received an envelope with 10 scratch lottery tickets. I scratched 7; all losers. I felt bad. We both could have used the $10 instead of throwing it away on useless lottery tickets! I assumed they were all losers, so I saved the last 3 for later. I had really low expectations scratching them off after the party. Alas! One of the was a $20, and the last ticket was a $100 winner!

That $ really came in handy! A week later, they called me back as a temp for month of January.

Many years later, they are still in business, and I still buy their products. Your story reminded me of them, because they also gave out holiday hams. I was the last employee to get a ham, but they didn't forget me. It was weird though, because I wasn't sure I was getting one, and I was the last name called.

That ham was a really big deal to me (and my housemates) at the time. It kept us fed for a week!

Yes
Four 4:30 closures in one year are the Magic!

They should consider marrying the two celebrations together, if possible.
that wouldn't be a bad idea. not sure how many cast/family that would include but from what I hear the park is VERY empty for these celebrations?
