Magic hours worth it or not?

I have read that magic hours are not worth it since the park with magic hours ends up being more crowded and wait times all the rest of the day are worse than they would have been at that park on another day w/out the magic hours. This seems to make sense to me... but is this only a problem when the park is already at high crowd levels? What if the crowd levels are at 5 or below?

Thanks for any help with this question.

For me, I use extra magic hours a lot. For instance, if a park has extra night time hours, I start at a different park in the morning, and then park hop to the other park (with the extra hours) in the afternoon to enjoy the rest of my day and then late night there.
This what we do too. We always end at the park that has evening magic hours. It is usually less crowded and faster moving lines for the rides.

As long as you've got a park hopper and go in a slower time, it's great. I really love it when MK has theirs in the morning. Being able to walk through the mostly empty crowds.....I love it.

Was able to get this pic, about 2 pm on a day with EMH!

Thats what we did when we were at WDW in November
Walking through MK at 2am is something to experience

Same here. The evening EMH are great especially when they are open past midnight. All of the families with little kids clear out by then.

Those who critique EMHs are - well....

EMHs (and I have taken advantage of them in every WDW season) are phenomenal. AM EMHs is most beneficial at HS as you can knock out TSMM and possibly ToT or RnRC by opening. Epcot is beneficial for Soarin and test track by opening. AK you can knock out Safari and enjoy very low crowds through opening. I always try to make MK morning hours but its rough but I can assume it is equally great if they have character greetings; or you can knock out Peter Pan and one other attraction.

PM EMHs are the specific reason why I stay on disney property. Though hours have been reduced to 2 - I was still able to complete most of MK attractions in January. I've found that the first hour of MK hours tend to packed but the last hour nearly everything is walk on (and this is true during the summer when MK is open later). HS is more of a challenge - you can forget TSMM unless your plan is to use the time specifically for that ride. I am usually able to do ToT plus a great majority of other attractions. Epcot - ironically, I prefer AM hours vs PM; however, WS comes alive at night. AK I think no longer has them but everything was walk on - one time I rode EE about 50 times.

I will say this - if WDW eliminates EMHs and focuses more on FP+ as the perk - then there is no purpose of me staying on property.

If you want to take advantage of them, have a plan and park hoppers. If you want to head to AK in the morning to hit the more popular rides, plan to leave once the regular crowds arrive and go to one of the other parks. Historically those parks with morning EMH are the busiest parks on that day of the week. For evening EMH I usually arrive a couple of hours before they start if I am in another park. Once the crowds start to thin out I have been able to ride my favorites numerous times.

We love Magic Hours and a chance to get some attractions in with less crowds. The only problem we have with MH is we are either too tired by the end of the day to use the evening ones - or we are too tired from the day before to get up early enough to use them. (Perhaps they could have Magic Hours in the middle of the day :) )

We rarely use morning EMH, but night absolutely! During the summer when MK closes at 12 or 1am, tack on a few EMH hours, take a leisurely stroll down Main St. and exit the park at 4am...amazing!!

Like someone else mentioned, if EMH goes away so does my reasoning for staying on property

We get so much done in the morning EMH. We're usually finished riding our faves by 11am, and then go back to the resort to enjoy "pool" time.:)
EMH evening, not so much. DHS was just as bad at night, sadly.:arghh:
I totally agree with bethymouse. We get so much done in the early hours. We didn't do them for a long time, but we finally decided to get up early one year and try them and realized how much we had missed by not doing the early hours. Also, in hot weather, those early hours are a must for me. We also like the last hour of the late hours. Since there are no fastpasses or non-resort people in the parks for early hours, most things are straight walk-on. I love the walk-on for Pooh and PP. Late hours are still crowded because non-resort people are allowed to stay in the parks. They just can't ride.
