Magic Express- UK Question

Hi,

I recently read that Disney don't send Magic Express Luggage tags out of the UK. We're visiting in September, Flying from Manchester airport in England and wondered how Magic Express will work for us, if at all, does anyone know?

I read something about putting your tags on at check-in, do they do that at the ordinary check in desk? (we're flying with Virgin)

has anyone used Magic Express from the UK? is it even available from the UK?

Looking forward to your replies,

Thanks In advance.

Magical Express tags go on your luggage when you pack the luggage.
The bags are then delivered directly to your hotel room.
Keep in your carry-on anything you think you may need when you get to the park. (Have done this many times - have changed into lighter clothing in the rest-rooms at the hotel and have either checked the carry-on with the bell service or taken it into the park until we were able to access or rooms).
Don't know if they send tags to the UK but I have seen people use it when they came into Orlando - there is plenty of room for luggage in the motor coach.

DME no longer sends tags outside North America.

To utilize the service coming from the UK, you register for the service in advance [if you haven't booked DME before arriving they will not take you or your bags]. When you arrive at MCO you'll have to retrieve your bags to clear U.S. Customs and Immigration. Once through Customs, you can either drop the bags on the cart for DME or take them with you. Then head straight to the DME check-in desk.

If you dropped off your bags or if you didn't have to go through Customs because you pre-cleared in the UK or elsewhere in the U.S., provide them with your baggage claim tags and a description of your luggage [I like to print off digital pictures of my bags just before leaving home and just give them the prints]. They will retrieve your bags and deliver them to your room.

Have a great trip!

I flew Virgin from Manchester in 2008.

To be honest, I've never really seen the draw of DME over getting a taxi (is it cheaper? I don't know). An option you could use is the Virgin Transfer service: for 2 people this generally works out cheaper than a taxi but for more people, just get a taxi. You'll get there quicker and it really isn't that expensive. I recommend pre-booking with someone like quicksilver

Hello,

We've use the Magical Express service twice before, coming in off the Virgin flight from Manchester. Once in 2007 and again in 2008.

Have you already registered for the Magical express? If not there's a form you need to fill in online (I'll try and find the link if you need it). They then send you email confirmation that you take with you.

When you arrive at Orlando International you'll clear immigration as normal and claim your baggage to take it through border control. (You have to take your bags through this bit).

Last year when we when we went they let us take our cases with us on the monorail rather than handing them over again. This saved us loads of time as we could then head straight for the Magical Express. You can then take the cases with you on board, so you have them as soon as you arrival at the hotel. They've got compartments under the bus. I'd recommend this after coming in off a long haul flight. We've never bothered with Disney claiming our bags as you can wait up to 4 hours for them to be delivered to your room.

Hope this makes sense, any other questions just ask.

If you dropped off your bags or if you didn't have to go through Customs because you pre-cleared in the UK or elsewhere in the U.S., provide them with your baggage claim tags and a description of your luggage

Don't mean to be a pain, but I just wanted to clarify that pre-clearance is currently only available in Canada, some parts of the Caribbean, and (soon) Ireland. (Ireland already has immigration pre-clearance, but they will get the full package with customs pre-clearance later this year.) If you are coming from another country and are connecting at another US airport, you would have already gone through the US immigration and customs checks there and would arrive in Orlando as a domestic passenger. In those two cases, you would go straight to the regular baggage belts and pick up your bags or, if you are using DME, you can give the claim tags to the DME reps. If you have not been pre-cleared or did not connect at another US airport, you would clear immigration in Orlando, then pick up your bags and clear customs. After that, you can either drop the bags off on the belt for delivery to the main terminal or, at Airside 4 (the one that British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, Lufthansa, AeroMexico, Copa Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Martinair, JetBlue Airways arrivals, and Mexicana use), take the bags with you on the train to the terminal. If you arrive at Airside 1 (the one used by Aer Lingus, Air Jamaica, CanJet, Sunwing Airlines, and WestJet), you will not be able to take your bags to the main terminal. If you chose not to (or could not) take the bags with you, you can pick them up on the designated belt or, if using DME, you can give the bag tags to the DME rep.

Right you are! I have no idea how I got it into my head that they had pre-clearance in the UK. Perhaps seeing "Ireland" I extrapolated...

Of course, according to the CBP website, Dublin Airport is located in "Dubland, Ireland"!
