Magic cruise to Canada

We are going on the Magic on 9/12 out of NY for Canada. I am interested in knowing if anyone has any tips on using the Port of NY. For instance luggage, check-in, boarding. We always sail from DCL port in Florida. Since Disney doesn't own this port, we expect it to be different.

We took this cruise last month. And I'll have to say it all went very smoothly. The ship was docked at Terminal 88 (although that may vary), and there's police and others directing traffic right up to the drop-off for busses and taxis (we were in the latter). We handed our bags off, putting a DCL tag on each that was provided to us. There's a number of large elevators on the outside of the terminal, but we found walking in and taking the escalators was quicker.

Once inside you'll go through TSA screening, then walk down to check-in at the DCL desks. There you'll fill out a form declaring any recent illnesses, and the CMs will tell you when you can board (we were able to go right on). They gave us our key cards, and a calendar of events for the day. You'll go through one more screening, where your key card is matched up to your passport, and then around the corner for a keepsake photo. After that you board and they announce you! All in all, a fairly painless process. :-)

Sorry, still getting used to this site. Thanks for the info. We will be taking a taxi from Port Authority. When we sailed on the Fantasy in June, we boarded in groups-based on the time we gave during online registration. Did they do that here? What time did they let you on?

Were the menus the same as the usual Disney cruises? We were wondering if they did something themed to Canada,

NJDisneyFan! I'm on the same cruise as you! I can't wait!

Wm49ers gave you some good info. Did you register online? If so you picked an arrival time there. If you haven't yet, go do that now! :)

No, nothing really seafood-themed, though I do seem to recall the welcome aboard lunch was a seafood buffet.

There is a seafood restaurant at the end of the farmer's market in Halifax that had good (fresh) seafood. And in St. Johns, Steamers Restaurant is about three-quarters of a mile from where the Magic was docked, but it had a really good selection.

We have a check-in time for 11. Someone told me that because Disney doesn't own the terminal, the process might be different. But it doesn't sound as though it is.

Thanks for the info everyone. Disneyfalcon, I'll see you on board. I'll be the one in the DCL shirt.

Hey DisneyFan,

My family did this cruise last month. The drop-off/pick-up at the port is amazingly easy. Not quite as easy as Port Canaveral, maybe, but close. Here's my trip report, which also includes a lot of info about the menus. It may be interesting to you. Have a great trip!

Great review. Thanks Chuck. I have never tried to upgrade at the port. How does that work? Do you pay the difference in the cabin rate?
