Magic Carpets of Aladdin

Was wondering if anyone heard a rumor a cast member told me last night at the Magic Carpets of Aladdin. She told me that the attraction was built with some differences than the other spinner rides with the hydraulics giving it a unique feature. Once riders get airborne they can pull the lever down, and once they feel the carpet drop, quickly bringing it back to center or up, and it makes the carpet "bounce". Of course, repeating this action gives the carpet a more thrilling ride. A lot of guests know about this and it was something cast members used to like to do before and after the park closed to guests. Now the area managers instructed the cms there that if a guest is bouncing his carpet they are to stop the attraction.
She said the question this policy is bringing up within the attraction is how can they police this? The whole point of the attraction is to go up and down and now they are supposed to punish guests by stopping the ride and potentially asking them off for using the lever given to them? Also the safety instructions don't say anything against bouncing and if its that dangerous why is the attraction open? Because anyone can make this bouncing feature work. She said that it is too early if this new policy will eventually cause this attraction to get remodeled or removed due to safety issues but, in my opinion, if its something Disney finds too dangerous, they are putting a lot of responsibility in minimum wage college kids to make that safety call.

Someone totally needs to test it.

If it is a real safety issue though, they should close the attraction. DL has been closing stuff left and right.

The carpets do go up and down. You can control that. There used to be a button in the back row that made the carpet sway back & forth or "bounce" as you say. It does not work anymore. You can only feel it at the end when the ride is stopping. But, we go up and down near the spitting camel and see who can get whom wet in our carpet. It's fun! Plus, it's really romantic to ride it at night.;)

I never knew that. Cool. I went on with my cousin and let her have the controls. She tried to get us spat on by the camel and failed at it. lol

That's weird the attendant would say that though if the button doesn't work anyway. =/

To be clear that's not what I meant. The button in the back makes the vehicles rock back and forth. The bouncing effect in question happens by manipulating the lever just right. It's a fun effect due to loose hydraulics (i assume, im not an engineer) and makes the attraction almost feel like a thrill ride. And yes there is a little bouncy rumble the attraction does when it's coming in for a landing.

Seeing as no one on this board has probably rode Flying Carpets due to the bad rep it has, may be a while, ha.

I was just there and rode it. But no one said anything about a safety issue or not bouncing. I was there 11 days ago.

Bouncing the spinners as a concept has been around for a while but in general it isn't widely known about. They aren't warning everyone about it in an effort to keep it that way.

If they were to close the carpets I'm not sure the surrounding Agrabah theme would leave. The M&G and merch location seem too popular to lose. I also kinda don't see them closing the Carpets at this point either considering MK's capacity issues and how cheap it is to run the ride.

I would like to see a "flying" dark ride!

On our last trip we did see someone doing this, however when we tried it didn't work. There were four adults, so maybe it was a weight thing.
