Magic Bands

My daughter is 4 years old and has requested a teal Magic Band. We are not going until the end of November and we parents know how quickly kids minds can change. Should I wait to make our Magic Band choice, or go ahead and do it? If I go ahead and order the bands, can I change it later?

You can change magic bands (the free ones) anytime before the cut off order date. I changed my mind 3 times lol. If you get the upgraded ones then you cannot change as they ship out almost immediately. At least mine did.

Another option: purchase a teal MagicBand skin (see links below) ahead of time and if she changes her mind about what color she wants, no harm, no foul: just don't put it on (or if you have already put it on, peel it off.)

We got an offer code for free MagicYourBand skins a few years ago as a promotion when we rented DVC points from David's Vacation Rentals. We loved them so much that we buy them for every trip now. There are many other companies that make them, as well, if you want to shop around for other designs. (For the ones below, cost is $6-$7 and you get a set of two skins -- so if one doesn't adhere well or you make a mistake putting it on, you have a backup.)

You had success with those? My sister got one and it got super jacked up with sunscreen.

In nine months your kid could be a completely different person. I would wait, honestly. I love getting check boxes checked as much as the next person, but my almost five year old definitely has changed a lot in the last year.

Yes. We just put the sunscreen on our own skin instead of on the MagicBand "skin." ;)

Seriously though, we wore them all day every day, swam in them, went on every ride at Typhoon Lagoon, etc., and only ever had an issue with 1 (out of a total of 8) skin that tended to want to peel off. We just took it off, cleaned the band surface with rubbing alcohol (okay, hand sanitizer, because it's all we had with us) per the manufacturer's recommendation, and put on the spare skin, which stayed put.

Two years later, 7 of the 8 original band skins we got (and are taking again on our upcoming trip, along with new ones) are just as bright and crisp-looking as the day we first put them on. In the interest of full disclosure, the skin on an 8th MagicBand - a glow-in-the-dark Tron style - did start to peel off during its 2-year-stay in my dresser drawer, although it stayed on all week during its original debut. This year, DH even ordered one of the same skins DD selected last time (deep purple Haunted Mansion wallpaper that glows in the dark), and the color on his brand-new one is indistinguishable from her 2-year-old one -- hers hasn't faded a bit.

We use skins pretty much every year. All 8 of our kids will get them. We have 2 week long trips. Generally the kids don’t wear them in the pool but even with all day wear that long they still look as good as new at the end of the trip. We don’t put sunscreen on the bands but sunscreen kids and then put bands on

Our skins always last and I love the options. We make sure to keep sunscreen and big spray off but it mentioned that in the directions of the first ones we've gotten and we have just been careful since. The kids don't wear theirs in the pool because I'm sure that thing would get lost so fast but I always have mine on and the water is a non issue. Just make sure you take time to apply them correctly and don't rush. I rushed one and the stickers came partly off but I knew it was me just being impatient.
