Also, didn't Iger allude to a mobile app at other Disney destinations with MyMagic type features at some point in the future?

Specifically in a comment towards Shanghai. He was asked if the MagicBands would be making the trip across the ocean. He replied that the bands would not but the tech involved would be rolled into the Smart Phone app for the resort. It would still be NFC based.

Disneyland is testing digital fastpass on their app as well as barcode scanned fastpass returns.

No. MagicBands will remain a WDW exclusive for the foreseeable future.

However, DLR is getting a hybrid digital Fastpass system as early as July.

I heard that when the Matterhorn opens it will have digital fastpass (what they were testing at Space Mountain a couple months ago.) Have you heard anything about that? And what exactly does that mean? I can do a Fastpass with my Smartphone and scan my phone at the ride? (Please, oh please, oh please!)

DLR's new FP system will allow you to book a Fastpass using your phone and scan in with it. Paper Fastpasses will still be available for anyone who isn't able to or doesn't want to use their phones.

My question is, are they adding more Fastpass options? Meaning, digital cell phone Fast passes become a thing and suddenly you can reserve like everything that should never have Fastpass such as Pirates, small world, Gadget's Go Coaster and the teacups?

Now that the iphone FINALLY has that ability, it would be interesting if you can use NFC with your smartphone.

I personally prefer NFC over scanning a bar code. I had my first trip to Disneyland in March and that was one of the things I missed about WDW. Even just going through the ticket booth was slower than the touch points at WDW.

Maybe the Mouse will turn on tap & pay so they can charge admission to the park as you enter the gates. They could set a two Disney hat minimum.

It would not surprise me that if some point in the distant future, every ride has FP (ala WDW) and no rides have paper. I say distant as they would need to create a system similar to WDW which will not be quick and easy here. Personally, I'm very happy they are going down this route as it worked like a charm in WDW for us. The ability to book, change, cancel...fantastic. Much easier than running back and forth across the park to get paper tickets.

I'm assuming that you will have to be in the park to book a fastpass with your phone? And with that, only have the ability to book the day of? At least I hope so. I would hate to have to plan what time I want to ride Space Mountain a month out.

Also do you know if one will be able to book a fastpass for an attraction in DCA while physically in Disneyland and vice versa. I just went to DLR with a group of 11 and it was a pain having to trek across the park/ through the esplanade and have the whole group walk into the other park for the sole purpose of obtaining a now available FP and then walking back over to the other park to carry on with our day.

I previously thought once you had visited each park once that the tickets were now activated for both parks and I could just take a runner with me to DCA leaving the majority of the group at DL waiting. I asked customer service next to the lockers outside of DL and they told me otherwise.

I think you have to be physically in the park to get a fast pass for that park even if you were their recently and now in the other park.

AFAIK, the only thing you can use the iPhone's NFC chip is for Apple Pay. I don't think devs have access to it beyond that functionality. :/

I haven't heard details on this project in awhile, but at the time I was told it would be for booking one FP at a time (so the current rules of the system apply) day of and in-park only. So you would need to physically be in the park to book a ticket, and you would need to physically be in that specific park (so you would need to move to DCA to get an FP for that park if you're currently in DL).

Management was trying to get FP added to Matterhorn and Peter Pan for the new system. I'm pretty sure Peter Pan is DOA because there is zero queue space to dedicate to FP.

I heard that Harold, the Matterhorn Yeti, has been pushing for Fastpass at his attraction since he arrived.

Thanks for the 411!
